Meet the Artists of our exhibition
WORKWORKWORKWORK - Dimensions of To Do´s Curated by Sascia Bailer & Karin Lustenberger On view until January 4th ***
Daniela Brugger is present with two art works in our exhibition: Todo, 2009-ongoing, to-do lists in archive boxes The artist began casually collecting her to-do lists in 2009, and since then the collection has grown into a diary-like archive. Thus, on a single list, a reminder to attend a demonstration can stand next to a note to take a shower, both being given equal value. For Brugger, writing tasks and messages on small slips of paper has both a practical and a biographical significance. When she was a child, her parents often had to work, leaving her and her sister at home alone. There were frequently handwritten notes from her parents on the table with instructions, greetings or small messages. Before digital text messaging became standard in the 1990s, such notes offered the family a simple way to stay in contact. The collection is titled Todo, which in Spanish means «everything» or, as a noun, «the totality». due to technical problems, 2023 The video installation is based on a personal text written by the artist about caring for her ageing grandmother. The artist used the text as a prompt to generate video material using artificial intelligence. This method exposes the layered nature of technologies, bodies and care work: while the text speaks of decay and care in relation to the elderly body, the visual element is produced by supposedly disembodied artificial intelligence in response to the text. During this process, the artist sought surprising representations, which, due to the way AI functions, also reflect existing images and stereotypes. Meanwhile, the speed at which these technologies are developing is in stark contrast to the slowness of the ageing body. The work highlights that every digital environment requires care and cannot exist without human labour and materiality. #Regionale #YoungArtists #LocalArtists #SchweizerischeKünstlerinnen #FemaleArtists #FeministArtists #Art #ContemporaryArt #kunst #Curator #FeministCurator #Feminism #Work #Labour #Cyberfeminism #Tech #AiArt

TOMORROW 🔥 Opening Nov 29, 16:30h Opening Talk, Artistic Interventions & Performances
⚡️The Artists are Present ⚡️ 📍Ausstellungsraum Klingental, Basel The Ausstellungsraum Klingental becomes a multilayered laboratory for the myths and inequalities surrounding work. For what is socially recognised as work is polarising — hereditary wealth, precarious working conditions, unpaid care work, unequal distribution of (free) time and “to-do’s”, as well as neoliberal notions of diligence and laziness intersect the debate. In WORKWORKWORK: Dimensions of To Do’s, the artistic positions critically engage with exhaustion, digitalised work, care work, pregnancy, ecological care, and fair remuneration — revealing a systemic critique that does not spare the art field. _ Digital Matter and Its Stories Reading and screening by Daniela Brugger. Featuring films by Maisha Maene, Tabita Rezaire, Elom 20ce, Musquiqui Chihying, and Gregor Kasper. Sat, 13.09.2025, 6–7:30 pm In the reading and film screening, we focus on the materials that make up digital devices and technologies. Many of these raw materials come from regions with a colonial history, whose effects continue to the present day: their extraction is often linked to environmental destruction, exploitative labor conditions, and unfair trade structures. The selected video works tell empowering decolonial stories—they connect digital matter with spiritual and healing approaches and offer new perspectives on how we engage with it. Today I went through the archive for an upcoming publication... and was very moved to see the songs from our performance 'Riot of the privileged' - I didn't look at the material in years. A performance where two bands played simultaneously - facing each other... The world was a different place - almost 10 years ago. It was a collaborative project initiated by me and Vera Bruggmann @vr.mr.br . Including 17 great souls, costume designers & artists on and off stage. And even more people contributed lyrics by an open call. All the texts got published @stingray_editions & we managed to record a vinyl, published by @a_tree_in_a_field_records In this video, you see a glimpse of the performance @ausstellungsraum_klingental in 2017 song title: the blazing sun singer & drum: @sarina_scheidegger keys: @baumgartner_franziska xylo: @juliaminnig guitar: Nora L. bass guitar: me

✨Meet the artist-in-residence at the BODIES-MACHINES-PUBLICS residency at Khoj! Daniela Burgger is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice is rooted in listening, exchange, and collaboration, encompassing performances, installations, videos, drawings, workshops, and more. Through her ongoing project Muddy Codes and Soft Infrastructures, Brugger is exploring the hidden aspects of digital technology—human labor, environmental impacts, and intangible elements like spirits—challenging the notion of technological infallibility in the Western world. She has also initiated @who_writes_his___tory , a collaborative writing project focused on feminist and artistic content on Wikipedia. Join us at the BODIES-MACHINES-PUBLICS Open Studio from December 11th to 13th, 2024, at Khoj Studios to experience her work alongside other residents’ projects. BODIES-MACHINES-PUBLICS is a two-year collaborative initiative between NAVE (Chile), Khoj International Artists’ Association (India), Immersive Arts Space/ZHdK (Zurich, Switzerland), and Kornhausforum (Bern, Switzerland), supported by Swiss Art Council Pro Helvetia. @centro_nave  @prohelvetia  @kornhausforum  @zhdk_immersiveartsspace  @brugger_daniela   To know more about the residency, visit #linkinbio
