Mauricio Paniagua and Tony Moxham of MT Objects (@mtobjects ) have lived and worked in Mexico City for nearly two decades, building a practice that moves between design and sculpture. This tea set is part of their Dot Series — a group of reimagined domestic objects decorated with hand-airbrushed spots — and is currently on view in the AGO showroom. To enquire about available pieces, or to visit the showroom, please contact AGO Projects. Pedestal tables now @agoprojects ! These two figurative ceramic tables draw their inspiration from mexico’s rich collective prehispanic history. They are hand-pieced from slip-cast bricks found on the streets of CDMX, and decorated with a mass of hand-sculpted figurative detail.

We’re super excited to share our new collection of ceramic works today @agoprojects in CDMX. “Hardware” is inspired by 20th century design, especially post war production, when the lines between handmade and machine-made blurred. Every piece in this collection is handmade and hand-assembled, but with an eye towards removing the human hand. The analog ceramic decals covering these works are inspired by commercial printed tile we saw while visiting Mumbai and Tamil Nadu in southern India, and by 20th century tilework that still exists in CDMX!

#tbt Brazil in October. São Paulo’s stunning @itaucultural houses one of the most impressive collections of colonial prints and artwork in the world. These often eccentric snapshots of life (and wildlife) in Brazil are both a record of colonial propaganda and also of the country’s dazzlingly unique people and nature

Hand-carving contrasted with premium acrylic shag gives The Jungle Rug by MT Objects @mtobjects its depth. Each contour is cut to create a clear separation between figure and field, adding structure and tactility to the design. Rich, saturated dyes bring the pattern forward, giving the jaguar and its shifting spots a sharper presence. See our previous posts for more on this 2017 collaboration with MT Objects. #Odabashian #OdabashianRugs #MTObjects #ContemporaryDesign #ModernCraft #TextileArt #RugDesign #HandCarved #DyedWool #CollectibleDesign

MT Objects @mtobjects is the collaborative practice of Tony Moxham (left) and Mauricio Paniagua (right), who have lived and worked in Mexico City since 2005. Their work draws on a deep familiarity with Mesoamerican pre-Hispanic cultures and a long-standing interest in using simple materials in inventive ways. They move between art and design, often treating objects as sculptural studies rather than functional products. In 2017 Odabashian collaborated with them on a limited edition piece, The Jungle Rug (see our previous post). #MTObjects #MauricioPaniagua #TonyMoxham #MexicanDesign #ContemporaryDesign #DesignCulture #ArtDesign #MaterialExperimentation #Handcrafted #AGOProjects
