An appreciation post for our friend @nathanclarinet , an internationally celebrated soloist and chamber musician.
The brilliant clarinetist shared his hand injury & recovery stories with MTF and @draltonbarron in 2020 as a way to encourage others who might be suffering from similar injuries to seek help.
Today, Dr. Williams performs as the principal clarinetist of @rocohouston . He is also a founding member of the musical trio Strata and an academic music educator.
If you are a working musician suffering from an upper limb injury, get help with confidence by reaching out to MTF. We remain dedicated to helping artists receive orthopedic care so they can keep the music playing!
This Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month, we celebrate the artists whose talent & storytelling continue to inspire the world. From music and film to business and the written word to culinary and visual arts, these creatives have shaped culture in powerful ways.
MTF's executive director @ichangcimino is the longtime Board Vice President of @aaldef , a nonprofit that protects and promotes civil rights of Asian & Pacific Americans. Irene recently attended the organization's annual gala in NYC to celebrate AALDEF and this year's Justice In Action Award recipients, Kalpana Srinivasan and Bowen Yang.
We hope you’ll join the APA celebration this month to explore the work of Asian & Pacific American artists, filmmakers, writers, and, of course, musicians!
@henry.ferland studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston. He played his guitar so much, he developed Carpal tunnel in both hands.
“I was in constant pain and couldn’t really use my hands. I had to take a semester off because I couldn’t play or even really take care of myself, so I moved back home to New York. It really was a hard year.”
Then Henry discovered MTF. After @draltonbarron performed surgery on both his hands, he was playing again within a month.
Henry just released his debut single, “Songbird,” and will showcase his fingerpicking style at shows in & around New York throughout the summer, plus an appearance at the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society in Nashville in July!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month — and for musicians, an important reminder that the passion we pour into our art should never come at the expense of ourselves.
At MTF, we often encounter our beneficiaries at their lowest point -- unable to perform, in pain, financially strapped, their livelihoods threatened by their condition.
Being a musician can look exciting from the outside — the shows, the late nights chasing a dream — but behind the scenes, it can also mean burnout, anxiety, self-doubt, isolation, and constant pressure to keep creating.
So this month, check in with the artists around you. Support them beyond the streams and sales. And if you’re a musician fretting over an upper limb injury, or know someone who is, MTF is always here to help keep the music playing for all!

How do you get to Carnegie Hall?
On this date in 2018, MTF donors enjoyed an evening at the landmark venue for the Chamber Festival Benefit. One of our earliest fundraising events showcased six fantastic classical musicians, plus the many hugs and handshakes from our founder @draltonbarron at the cocktail reception before the concert.
On this date 4 years ago, MTF took over the beautiful @paramountaustin to host an intimate performance from @rosannecash and @johnleventhal
Rosanne & John are not only longtime supporters of our cause, they're also MTF board members. We remain grateful for their presence on this special evening, and to all of you who come out to events like this to support our mission to help musicians with upper limb injuries to keep the music playing ❤️
Today is International Jazz Day! MTF celebrates our artist supporters and beneficiaries who contribute to this international art form. Jazz promotes peace, dialogue, diversity, respect for human rights, and most of all, freedom of expression. MTF loves and supports *all* genres, but thanks to the talented folks who champion our cause, jazz holds a special place in our hearts ❤️
Meet @craigsmilowski , a heavy metal drummer from Florida 🤘
Craig suffered from Carpal tunnel syndrome since the mid-90s. Then he reached out to MTF and scheduled surgery with @draltonbarron
“I was given a choice of music to listen to during the procedure. I thought, 'Rush and Led Zeppelin.' Channeling the drum gods during surgery ultimately created a relaxed & focused atmosphere. It was about the ability for me to continue to create and evolve without the perpetual numbness & tingling that was so debilitating. My post-surgery possibilities are limitless!"

In 2022, we launched our MTF Spotlight Concert Series @beerburgevents to showcase some of our talented beneficiaries -- and to raise awareness for our mission to help injured musicians keep the music playing.
Our first of four events featured two guitarists with distinct styles -- the bluesy rock of @vanwilks and the Latin flavor of @luisibanez903 -- and served as a celebration of live music resurfacing in our Austin community ❤️
Team MTF recently celebrated a joy-filled evening @acllive with the inspiring @samarajoysings and her brilliant jazz ensemble!
Samara's star seems to rise with each performance, and we're blessed to have seen her in concert more than once to witness that rise in person.

Just like musicians rely on their road crew to ensure all equipment & instruments are ready to go for each performance, MTF relies on donations from generous music lovers like you to help musicians suffering from upper limb injuries get specialized care.
Please consider supporting us all year long by joining the MTF Road Crew with a monthly donation. Your giving will help a professional musician receive the orthopedic care they need to keep the music playing for us all!
