I got The Band’s first album in fall 1968, I was 15 and realized it was (and still is) another beast entirely. I would listen to the first cut, Tears Of Rage, over and over. Permanently ingrained.
Trying to think of ideas for a ‘record’. I spent a lot of the ‘80’s playing in this style…and then it kinda drifted away. Thank you Curtis Mayfield, Hugh McCracken, Bruce Langhorne, Reggie Young, Cornell Dupree, Bobby Womack, James Burton….etc.
George’s SG…used during the incredible ‘66-68 period….Paperback Writer, Rain, Hey Bulldog, Lady Madonna. Apparently then given to Pete Ham of Badfinger…then played on No Matter What (!). Felt like a good one. Couple of hours later…sold to the Highest Bidder.
Thinking about my partner Rick DePofi today, gone 8 years. I think about him everyday. Here we are with Joan Osborne and the late great Issac Hayes cutting this version of Smiling Faces in 2002. Still sounds good to me.
Somehow I had forgotten about this video made during the disorienting first year of the pandemic. @garyclarkjr@brandicarlile . Still timely….turn your phone Sideways.
