Mirror Steel L61’  W14’  H14’ Installed at Gilbertsville Expressive Movement, Gilbertsville, NY @gvilleexmv This large steel sculpture is site responsive piece inspired by WW1 pre radar listening devices that would capture sound from great distances allowing the listener to experience the amplification of the area in case of impending danger. In this case the central charged point offers an opportunity to slow down, listen, feel, wait, and to be in that space between spaces. The shape and placement being in line with the Butternut Valley in Gilbertsville NY will capture and intensify the sound for the participant. In using the sound beyond what we can hear as a momentary found object; capturing it, and focusing it in a way to interact with what extends past our sight. Thank you to Gilbertsville Expressive Movement for the support and funding of this sculpture. A wonderful place with wonderful people. Thank you for this opportunity. We will have an official opening for it in the spring of 2022. #art #upstateny #artresidency #sculpturepark #nyc #newyork #bigart #outdoorsculpture #sculpture @nyc_buzz_ #steel #metal #sound

Excited to finally be presenting my Capstone Project to the HSPV department @weitzman_preservation at @uofpenn tomorrow and friday! “The Light Withdrawn” is focused on The Cliffs, aka The Fisher Mansion in Fairmount Park. A ruin of a historic designated home just outside of the Strawberry Mansion neighborhood, originally built in 1753. Using laser projection alongside VJ Mapping software, I created an installation that starts by digitally reconstructing the building’s original facade using scaled archival images, creating an ephemeral, non-invasive reconstruction onto the existing ruin. Showing how the structure appeared prior to the fire in February 1986, 40 years ago. Followed is a series of newspaper articles and photographs from the last 120 years, superimposed across the building’s crumbling surface, detailing headlines about the struggle and tragic story of The Cliffs deteriorating state, and the city's constant uncertainty about what to do with the house before and after the fire. The project invited viewers to experience the building through time rather than in a period of significance. Examining how historic preservation, urban storytelling, and the built environment are explored through a sculptural act using new media. It questions traditional ideas of permanence and materiality by challenging the viewer to see preservation as interpretive and performative. This project activates public space and engages audiences in dialogue with Philadelphia’s architectural history, inviting them to confront the site's absence, loss, and memory through these historical ruins.

Quick little sculpture for @matters_matters_matters course. On view in the Charles Addams Fine Arts Hall at @uofpenn . Bump Manila Rope H 24"x W5" x D5" . This object is reminiscent of a maritime device that is no longer used, replaced with a mass produced plastic alternative that would be deemed more economical and successful in its purpose. But this object and its replacement is a reminder of the area I was born in. A maritime community that was once filled with bespoke laborers, small shops, and its own culture, it has all been razed, replaced with concrete towers apartments and false natural landscapes on top of parking garages that took over the area in search for those harbor side views.

Sound on! Now on view at EKA Tianwu in Shanghai my short video "Fall". Part of the @artelagunaprize Shanghai Exhibition 2025. The video is a peak into the unseen sounds and motions from the installation of my sculpture "Corporate Colosseum" which uses slag and coal sand to build up a 600lb pile at the base of the piece. It creates quite a beautiful sound. . I want to thank @__zeus__ for help producing this video. Could not have done it with you! . On view till December 15th. . 100-year-old factory is reborn as an “open-air architectural museum”: EKA Tianwu in Jinqiao, Pudong is reshaping the logic of urban renewal. . The project covers an area of more than 40 thousand square meters, 1500 of which will be dedicated to Arte Laguna Prize artists. Originally established by the 1869 Pudong Customs Factory, the space was later leased by Jiayun Investment. After the investment and renovation, it began to attract investment and become an integral part of the business in the market. . EKA “EKA” comes from Sanskrit and originally means ‘one’ and “unknown element”, and the terms combines Exploration (exploration of new things against the grain), Knowledge (craftsmanship) and Aesthetics (community of aesthetics). . The goal of the project is to restore space for man and nature to coexist together in a place that can respect both elements. . “Beauty coexists and each has its own beauty,” and so the design of each building is different from the other. With more than 40 buildings integrating cultures from various countries and various design styles, EKA Tianwu becomes a museum of architecture that with strong continuity hosts unique and creative projects. . ARTE LAGUNA PRIZE Arte Laguna Prize will exhibit in one of the buildings with a space of over 1500sqm available, all dedicated to international contemporary art. The exhibition will be held in downtown Shanghai from November 1 to December 15, 2025, with more than 100 artists exhibiting for this more unique than rare occasion. EKA – TIANWU 535 Jinqiao Lu, near Zhonghuan Lu Pudong District – Shanghai 金桥路535号, 近中环路

Excited to share that this fall, I've been accepted into the Master of Science in Design: Historic Preservation program at the University of Pennsylvania in the Weitzman School of Design! I'm looking forward to returning to architecture in a sense, the field I originally studied before sculpture. For a while I have been focused on materiality and the history of a site, or stories that a material or a space can hold. Now, I have this incredible opportunity to focus on this and parallel it with my art practice. An I couldn’t be more thrilled.  A lot has changed, and a lot will, but I’m ready for what’s next.

It was great to collaborate with @editions.unes publishings and gallery in Nice, France to create the cover for their translation of #solmazsherif book "Customs". Super happy how it came out and an honor to work on such a great piece of writing! . In Customs, Solmaz Sharif examines what it means to exist in the nowhere of the arrivals terminal, a continual series of checkpoints, officers, searches, and questionings that become a relentless experience of America. With resignation and austerity, these poems trace a pointed indoctrination to the customs of the nation-state and the English language, and the realities they impose upon the imagination, the paces they put us through. While Sharif critiques the culture of performed social skills and poetry itself—its foreclosures, affects, successes—she begins to write her way out to the other side of acceptability and toward freedom. . #art #gallery #poetry #nicefrance #editionunes #illustration #drawing #customs
