Here’s the News & Observer ad for the Monkees show at Dorton Arena in 1969. My dedicated mother took my two older brothers and me to the 3:30pm show. It was my first concert. Peter Tork had left the band by this point, but I don’t think I noticed. I was 5. Contrary to urban legend, The Jimi Hendrix Experience did not open for the Monkees on this tour. After the show, we went into the State Fair and bought some ham biscuits from the Methodists for dinner. @micky_dolenz #Monkees #DortonArena
Happy 81st Birthday to the great @micky_dolenz ! This man has brought a great deal of joy to my life over the years. I first saw him perform with The Monkees at Dorton Arena in Raleigh, NC when I was 5 years old. I’ve seen him many times since and have had the pleasure of working with him as well. Happy Birthday, Micky! Here’s to many more! ❤️
San Diego, CA, Summer, 1999 - I was fortunate enough to get the legendary Spanish mime Silencio Por Favor to do a cameo in BRING IT ON. A brilliant artist. He never once spoke on set but could be heard cursing like a marinero in his trailer. #BringItOn25
Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles, February, 2001 - On the occasion of the home video release of BRING IT ON, I had a little house party at my old place on Kirkwood. I just found these slides. Such a great night! Pictured:

My good friends at @shout_studios have given me the best 25th Anniversary present I could imagine: a brand-new 4K restoration of BRING IT ON from the 35mm original camera negative, approved by yours truly! The film has never looked better - far superior to previous disc releases and to any current streaming versions. Two-disc set now available at shoutfactory.com. #BringItOn25
Characters in high school movies who listen to the same music the directors of those movies do is a famous Hollywood cliché - a cliché I fully embraced in BRING IT ON. Here’s Cliff (the great @jessebradford ) sporting his (my?) Chameleons t-shirt. The Chameleons are from Middleton, Greater Manchester, UK and their first three albums (Script of the Bridge, What Does Anything Mean? Basically and Strange Times) are three of the greatest LPs to ever come out of England. Seek them out and soak them in! Cliff (and I) approve this message. #BringItOn25
San Diego, CA, Summer 1999 - @kirstendunst and @elizadushku prepare for the drive up to East Compton. (I’ve attached the song I originally temped this scene with: The Stone Roses’ “Begging You”. On our budget, there’s no way we could afford it. So @christophebeck worked his magic and gave me something every bit as propulsive.) #BringItOn25
San Diego, CA, Summer 1999 - Here I am rehearsing with @kirstendunst and the Toros as they are about to realize how hard Sparky Polastri has screwed them over. #BringItOn25

San Diego, CA, Summer 1999 - “Brrr! It’s cold out here!” Night shooting in Clover Country as @gabunion and the East Compton squad prepare to confront Torrance and Missy. #BringItOn25
25 years ago today, BRING IT ON, my first feature film, was released. It’s insane to think that it’s been that long. Thank you to all the fans who have kept our movie alive for so long. We have some fun stuff planned for the 25th anniversary. Stay tuned. Cheers! #BringItOn25
