I’m probably in trouble for this one — snapped straight from my big sister’s private photo album (well… not anymore 😬) while she was making the most delicious roast chicken and corn salad for me. But wowza! 👀 Had to share. We love you, @gustthepoodle .
@gustthepoodle and me with our beloved, politically incorrect, and completely fabulous boss, Jean-Louis Ginibre, who somehow managed to keep us all in line at Marian’s @elledecor and my George Magazine. He was one in a million - plenty of off-color Jean Louis-isms in my book!
A memorable lunch on Marian’s porch with the great Wayne Lawson of @vanityfair . It was around the time Vanity Fair excerpted my book, and we were reading paragraphs about the days when Marian — then at @elledecor — and George Magazine were next-door neighbors. She suddenly declared we were having a true California country club lunch, then immediately put me to work whisking mayonnaise - egg yolks with dijon and lemon juice — or was it vinegar? — for her famous chicken salad. It was the best chicken salad I’ve ever had. We love @gustthepoodle !!!
The big sister I always wanted and the little brother she never asked for. I was dubbed “Matt-a-Rat” in 1990 when Marian was running @elleusa . Besides kicking over a tray table and sending a glass of red wine flying on my last visit (don’t worry, Ratt — red wine? red carpet? No problem!!!), Benny and I were invited back. Go figure! We love our @gustthepoodle ! 😘😘😘

Carolyn’s 30th birthday card, circa 1996.
“I remember it was Carolyn’s birthday, and I’d sent this card over to her by messenger. I didn’t hear anything for a few hours and then she called ecstatic.”
Later, I heard that Rose called her and said “Matt Berman was up half the night drawing your birthday card, you better call him!”
Carolyn hung this on the fridge at 20 North Moore.
