New works by Mark Barker will be shown in a broad range of media developed specifically for the presentation at the fair. Mark Barker was nominated by artist Wolfgang Tillmans as part of Frieze London's Artist-to-Artist initiative.
Barker's presentation speaks of bodies, how they move, and how things move in and out of them. In his ongoing photographic examinations, Barker documents the ventilation screens of different models of portable toilets. Positioned just above head height these vents grant privacy while providing an economical escape route for any unwanted odours. Barker’s drawings and sculptures are developed through observation and research, with sources ranging from sanitary design to rabbit anatomy. Adopting a multifaceted approach to making, in these works Barker articulates experiences of living alone in a body, its mechanics, and its limits. Mark Barker currently lives and works in Berlin.

Former Palais de Danse, across the road from Barbara Hepworth’s Trewyn studio, purchased in 1961. This is where Hepworth produced Single Form, her largest work, and one of her most prominent public commissions, displayed since 1964 in a circular water feature that forms a traffic island at the Headquarters of the United Nations in New York City. The building was gifted to the Tate in 2015 and will be part of future developments. @tate #barbarahepworth #tatestives
