Post-class run through of what we taught at Base last night. We wanted to honour D’Angelo as we’re such big fans of his music and we’ve seen some great tributes to him by dancers all over the world since the sad news broke. We’ve both taught to ‘Brown Sugar,’ ‘I Found My Smile Again’ and ‘Lady’ before so wanted to pick something different. We went with ‘Left and Right’ cos it has that *grown folk music* feel. Class every Thursday at Base 1900-2030
We taught this as a throwback last night and were reminded of what a banger this track is. Here’s the original video from when we first taught it in 2023. The early Ryan Leslie era was such a great time for music and dance. We tried to capture elements of that with the combo as its so nostalgic and has so many great memories for dancers of our (advanced) ages. Shoutout to @yvescueni for being so excitable as he filmed, can’t beat a good hype man.

Shoutout to everyone that came through. This was a select group at the end. Also thanks to @josh.karlin for learning it ahead of time and demo'ing with me. Didn't want to be so predictable and do a JT track for the first class, but this one off the new album is a banger so 🤷🏻♂️.

Shot with some new friends in LA last week before I left the US. Wanted to dance to some music from London, so went with this Bluey Robinson banger (how this wasn't a hit song is beyond me). Thanks to @mariespieldenner and @gabe.perez__ for learning this super fast and dancing with me. I get conflicted watching myself dance these days as time is a motherf'er with what it does to you, but I'm glad I did this for a number of reasons. Fun times and a good way to end the trip. Also, thank you to @siennalyons1 for being a great host during my stay and letting us use the garage to shoot.

Raw footage from a session I had with some friends/dancers I've recently gotten to know a few weeks ago. Ran it like a class, this group had about 40 mins to learn and then we filmed. I never film in class cos my focus is on teaching and people dancing but I know that footage/content is what mf's want these days. All of the peeps in the vids teach so check them out at Base, the Hub, Pineapple or their workshops. Thanks to @basedancestudios for the space and Cal, Isaac, Mike, Fi, Deavion, Jevan and Jeff for their time, talent and energy.
