so, this is the post I never wanted to write…
it’s been almost five years since I first had the idea for my @rewind_app — a private timeline to save and share any and all of life's moments and memories, with no algorithms, adverts or analysis, away from the noise of social media
and yet, despite all of the vocal enthusiasm and interest, no-one ever committed to using it. so continuing to spend any more time, effort and money on keeping rewind available for others who clearly don’t want it (even for free), is foolish
I won’t lie — it’s been baffling, and yeah, pretty disappointing that so few people saw any value in having a hidden space online to save theirs or their kid’s memories and experiences — or worse, they do see the value in it, but just can’t be bothered
but I have zero regrets — as well as learning loads along the way, I’ve scratched my creative itch and built my daughter a personal, multimedia timeline of hundreds of memories — eight years of her life completely hidden from commercial exploitation and any social comparison. no likes, no followers, no comments — almost 2000 memories and random moments across our timelines, organised, searchable and cloud-saved, just for us
they say it’s better to have tried and failed than to never try at all — and I stand by that. rewind might have failed as a business, but I think it’s still the best thing I’ve ever made, and I love it a little bit more with every memory I add
so yeah, the @rewind_app is no longer available to anyone other than my daughter and me… which, being honest, was the main reason I built it anyway 💕
so here’s to rewind…
