Ahead of his Thursday residency at Marquee Moon, we caught up with Mr Doris to talk musical journeys, curveballs, London nightlife and the strange magic of a Thursday night dancefloor.
From Space Ibiza sunsets to intimate East London basements, Doris has spent years building sets that move effortlessly through house, disco, afrobeat, funk and beyond. As he puts it, itâs all about âfinding and matching the common groove between the different genresâ and keeping the listener intrigued along the way.
A regular at Pikes Ibiza and long-time favourite of ours, he brings that same loose, warm, anything-goes energy to Dalston all month long. Expect feel-good selections, unexpected turns and the kind of sets that quietly keep you there until close.
We start strong with Doris all night long, before friends and fellow selectors @sean.innit and @kevincuttsdj step in across the month.
And of course, it wouldnât be Thirsty Thursday without ÂŁ6 margaritas all night. Do with that what you will.
@mr_doris and @dfunkbreaks ' sleazy, P-funk influenced nu-disco celebration of kinkiness became something of an underground anthem on its initial release in 2022, so it's little surprise to see the track back in remixed form. Fittingly the pair kick things off with their own pitched-up 2026 take, a more thickset and muscular chunk of nipple-tweaking nu-disco/deep house fusion, before label chief @fingermandisco dusts down his TB-303 clone and delivers a fizzing 'Acid Disco' revision that's as breathless as it is sleazy. Friend of the family @chewyrubs goes all shirtless and hypnotic on his chugging nu-disco makeover, before the duo gives us another chance to savour their classic original mix. ââ Rate this release in the comments! ââ
