“Rye” - Fern’s Mississippi Winter Rye - 11/27/25
Welcome Rye! Rye’s been filling our hearts and putting smiles on our faces from the day we picked her up. We can’t wait for her life full of adventure, love, companionship and memories and experiences together in the field, on the water and at home!
We picked up Rye on 1/23/26 with Winter Storm Fern ominously approaching the Southeast promising snow, ice and freezing rain. It is only fitting that Rye’s mom is named Fern. We were blessed and fortunate to get out hours before the Nashville Airport closed. Life continues to not have a dull moment and be full of adventure. 🖤

Musselshell Montana Merriam - 5.2.26. The kind of spring mornings you don’t ever forget with sunrises, big skies and fired up longbeards echoing gobbles along the cottonwood river bottoms.

We’re almost there… Fall trout season is creeping in which brings a change in fishing conditions and a new set of hatches. @mpdslvrfox from @worldcast_anglers gives us a quick run down of the most prominent hatches we see in the Greater Yellowstone region during this season.
Keep an eye on the Fish Camp website (see the link in our bio) for the upcoming release of Mike’s full masterclass where he covers the major hatches and fishing conditions throughout the entire year across the the Greater Yellowstone region.
Spring is in the air and you know what that means…
These bad boys are on the move!

For 2024, one of my New Year Resolutions was to catch a trout per month in the greater Jackson Hole area. 8 different rivers, 2 different National Parks, 4 different Trout species including two subspecies of Cutthroat Trout & countless hours on the water either in solitude or with family & friends. I visited favorite fishing spots, had adventures to new areas that I can’t wait to revisit & was humbled by areas I considered “home water”. While bringing a trout to the net was the purpose, the real reward was the found renewed appreciation & gratefulness for the amazing area I get to call my home. As well as any time on the water.
I was walking back to my truck at the beginning of this winter & ran into some anglers at a popular winter fishing spot. One of them asked, “How many did you catch?” I replied with “Just one, I only wanted to catch one.” They looked at me confused, then headed to the river. I continually reflect on that interaction and my statement.
I remember every single fish from this journey this past year. But just as important, I remember the calmness of solitude on a winter day on the water, the laughs and excitement of fishing with family and friends, my first dry fly eat of the year, the first western tanager signaling summers arrival, surprising a wolf on an elk carcass, grizzly bear tracks on the river bank, a blaze orange cutthroat surfing in a seam line, & a lone kingfisher battling a bald eagle for his fishing hole. 12 fish may not seem like a lot, but perhaps we loose sight of the “purpose” when we try to catch them all! I’ll take the memories any and every day!

Redfish blitz highlights from the Bayou! Fall time in the Mississippi Delta shouldn’t be missed and Venice is a perfect jumping off point for a fall jumbo Redfish mission. Add in the “buzz” of New Orleans, great food and even better company and time on the water with close dear friends - this trip will go down in the books as one of the best!
