At #Cannes this year, Korea isn’t just back — it’s leading. For the first time, a Korean filmmaker, Park Chan‑wook, is presiding over the festival jury, marking a shift from participation to global influence. Korean films are also front and centre across the lineup, from "Hope" competing for the Palme d’Or to titles featured in Midnight Screenings and Directors’ Fortnight. Leading Korean filmmakers including "Parasite" director Bong Joon-ho’s presence also underscores the continued global visibility of Korean cinema. This moment on the Croisette reinforces a bigger story: Korea’s global creative success didn’t happen by accident, but through sustained policy choices that have enabled K‑content to scale globally and deliver real economic impact. Find out more on how Korea did it, with key takeaways from MPA APAC President & MD Urmila Venugopalan’s conversation with @helloherald .

Held at Korea's National Assembly on April 21, the launch of the Economic Contribution of the Audiovisual Industry in South Korea marked a focused engagement with policymakers and other stakeholders in #Seoul. Beyond films and television series that continue to capture world attention, the audiovisual industry underpins a significant economic ecosystem — employing nearly 300,000 and generating USD17 billion. 🎞️ It was a week of meaningful engagement that highlighted the government’s commitment to the future of South Korea’s creative economy. Follow MPA APAC for more stories from across the region’s creative industries. ✨

AI is no longer a future conversation for the creative industries, it is already reshaping how stories are developed, produced, distributed, and experienced. We’re pleased to release “AI in the Creative Industry: Deepening the Value Chain”, a new white paper by Creative First and Koan Advisory Group examining how AI is transforming the media and entertainment ecosystem, the opportunities it unlocks, and the questions the industry must confront as this shift accelerates. From creative workflows and production pipelines to rights, regulation, and the future of human creativity, the paper maps the evolving relationship between AI and the creative economy. Read the full white paper here at the link in bio.

From Europe to Asia‑Pacific, screen tourism reflects the global reach of film and television and the value of cross‑border collaboration. When productions are supported by the right policies and partnerships, locations don’t just host shoots — they become part of the story audiences remember. As productions continue to move across borders, the MPA supports frameworks that help connect creative ambition with long‑term economic and cultural impact for host destinations. Swipe to discover more film and TV locations in Part 2 of our Postcard Series, or read the full list via The Hollywood Reporter.

This week, the Motion Picture Association was pleased to meet with Ms Sabeeda Thaised, Minister of Culture, in Bangkok. We had a constructive exchange on the strong prospects for Thailand’s film, television, and streaming industry, and on the continued appeal of Thailand as a destination for both local and international productions. With an impressive track record of hosting high‑quality screen projects, Thailand has built a world‑class production ecosystem. We look forward to deepening our partnership with the Ministry of Culture in July, when we will co‑host the 2nd Thailand Success Stories Seminar. The seminar will explore how long‑term growth depends on developing talent, training the next generation of creatives, working with government on smart incentives, maintaining light‑touch regulation, and supporting policies that strengthen the creative digital economy, drive innovation, and boost tourism. #ThailandSuccessStories
