Great to come together again for our 2nd Creating Active Schools session 🙌
This time, we took a deeper dive into whole systems thinking exploring how every part of the school ecosystem connects and influences the bigger picture. Grounding our discussions in Blackpool’s unique context, we reflected on both the opportunities and challenges shaping our schools and communities.
We also spent time defining our aspirations for schools what does an “active school” truly look and feel like? The conversations were thoughtful, honest, and forward looking.
A key highlight was working together to break down elements of the Creating Active Schools framework, helping us identify what schools are already doing well and how we can build momentum, both by leading and engaging others, to drive changes that positively impact whole-school outcomes through physical activity.
Really looking forward to seeing this group continue to thrive 🌟

Move together Blackpool attended the Sport England Place Peer Learning event in Birmingham to present the work we have have undertaken around system leadership and young people.
The presentation focused on how we as a collective have brought young people into the systems leadership space as active participants, developing a shared language across the system and how we all can change the system. Boathouse Youth Young Professionals presented how they have used system leadership in their work and across the organisation. Thanks to @officialsportengland for creating the space for sharing learning.

Thank you April and Laura @movetogetherblackpool for curating the session 🙌🏼
Over the past two weeks, the Move Together Blackpool team have been out and about, facilitating sessions at Sport England’s Place Peer Learning Exchanges in both London and Birmingham.
By dividing and conquering, we each stepped up to the challenge of public speaking—sharing our journey so far, the lessons we’ve learned, and the realities of the challenges we continue to navigate along the way. It was a brilliant opportunity to connect with others across the country, exchange ideas, and reflect on how far we’ve come. With this, providing us with fresh perspectives and thinking for our next steps.
A highlight for us was receiving shout-outs from Lisa Dodd-Mayne, recognising the work happening in Blackpool.
We feel incredibly proud, grateful, and honoured to have been part of these experiences, and we’re excited to keep learning, growing, and sharing our journey with others.

What a fantastic day connecting with community leaders from across Blackpool! We brought people together to explore movement, share experiences, and have some really honest conversations about the barriers and opportunities for helping more people be active in our communities. The energy in the room was brilliant – everyone was engaged, open, and full of ideas about how we can create positive change locally.

A huge thank you to all the community leaders who joined us and contributed their time, insight and passion. Your voices and experiences are incredibly valuable, and we’re grateful for your continued involvement as we move forward together.
The next step is to use the feedback from the day to co-design a Community Leadership Programme, shaped by the people who know our communities best. We’re excited to keep building momentum across Blackpool, working together to make sure movement is part of daily life for our community.
If you’d like to get involved in shaping this work or be part of the journey, please drop us a message – we’d love to hear from you.
