Iām excited that I can finally share this art! ššš Not a commission, just an illustration I wanted to capture of Meghanās old bathroom covered in Madonna ephemera based on a photo she shared when she was packing up her @citiesindust studio. Forever celebrating weird and wonderful ways that artists and makers adorn their spaces in one-of-a-kind ways. Sometimes you just see something that inspires you to create, and this was it! Material Girls + collaging walls with cutouts will never not be cool.
⨠you didnāt imagine it āØ
hand lettering s/o to my thousands of recently recovered photos I had thought Iād lost forever 6 years ago.
consider this proof of life, proof of art making, and proof there will be better times in the mix - iām reminding myself that as i reminisce.
I made a deal with myself that I couldnāt start any new projects until I finished the ones I had in the works. NO NEW WORK!
But I had IDEAS! Well, too bad, because I also had stuff I absolutely needed to finish to clear space for newness mentally and physically. I thought if I clamped off the creative valve it would motivate me to stop procrastinating on some art I had lost interest in the process of making (but was really excited to see the end result of, ironically).
You want to know what happened?
I DIDNāT MAKE ANY ART!!!!!!!!!!!!! At. All. I didnāt finish my projects because I didnāt want to. And I didnāt make any new art that I was inspired by excited to explore because I told myself I couldnāt. Lose-lose scenario much?!
This unscientific experiment taught me that the art we are making in between and during the art we are avoiding is a necessary part of the process. (I used to fondly call this procrastination art, but I think that devalues its importance.) It also taught me I am not motivated by withholding. I already knew this.
Iām feeling motivated to finish my projects-in-wait, and also excited to get to a-doodling again. And Iām looking forward to sharing ceramics and photographs soon that I did create during this liminal time! Enjoy this new take on old art, in the spirit of NO NEW WORK. I think this will be my third and final iteration of sharing a remix of this NEW lettering created five years ago. Keep on making, yāall. Back to the quite-literal drawing board we go.
Home. My favorite from this roll.
Double exposure of my monstera + living room shot on CineStill, and shockingly well exposed given the conditions at play and my hasty attempt at using up the final few shots.

Capping off a cute day with Nick, captured on CineStill. Hitting my stride with this roll of film a few shots before I ran out of exposures, as one does, and feeling less shy about asking to take peopleās portraits. Almost golden hour, but not quite š

Low-light Lori, and some pretty-perfect bokeh, courtesy of a winning Corner Bar + CineStill combo. An afternoon well spent.

Margieās Candies, on film, in all her glory. Thank you Armitage bus for the lighting assist & closer vantage point to that iconic neon sign on that first one.
Itās funny, this place used to be āSO FAR WESTā in my early Chicago years, and now I walk by it almost daily. And I think about that a lot, so this landmark is a great reminder to me how perspectives are ever-shifting.
