A little something i did for @zara .
Although it looks quite simple, the setup behind it is quite elaborate for full control over the placement/number/bounces of the xmas balls.
Actually i’m quite proud of the setup. Vellum is intolerant to mesh interpenetration and if two pieces are stuck, it’s for good and may cause instabilities/explosions a low substeps.
RBD engines are able to exert outward forces in order to solve initial interpenetration issues. Vellum doesn’t, so i had to cook two consecutive vellum sims with attributes that trigger each other.
The first bounce of the big balls triggers the birth of the second source for a second vellum sim. The big xmas balls then are deleted by age.
The newborn balls inherit some velocities from their parents and also bounce a few times in proximity to the ground (for a more dramatic/exagerrated effect). All done in Houdini/Substance Painter, rendered in Octane.
