2/2 I just went alone. The Oregon coast, always beautiful, was grey, wet, as it’s meant to be, and as it’s been such a grey and wet spring here (I still haven’t been out to see my parents this spring in eastern Oregon for fear of the ticks. Dad came home with fifteen from one hike recently, and it snowed again yesterday), when the thought of sun in California occurred to me, I followed. I was amazed and delighted. The mountain was simply leaking from everywhere it possibly could 🤍 I will continue to insist that it is integral to healing to provide experiences of pleasure and joy for yourself. There is no virtue in suffering for suffering’s sake, and our pride and insistence in doing so will only serve to disconnect from ourselves and each other. Highlight of the trip was the vicious climb to the top of Nevada Fall. Can’t wait to bring a dear heart next time!
1/2 I’m creating two posts for this spontaneous trip. Felt a whim and whoop..! What a wonderful time of year to visit waterfalls! Such urgency to move, such relief to be able to!
Just a month shy of seven years together, sweet Hera had to go. I know there is no sense in comparing grief, but it’s hard to say how sad I am about losing her when there are so many real tragedies in the world, so many sadnesses. But she was a really nice girl, just a really, really nice cat, you know? She was so good. She was with me through so much hurt over the years, and brought me so, so much joy. I wish I could muster something more poetic, more of what she deserved, but I hope she knows how terribly she will be missed because it’s a hell of a lot. Rest easy, pretty girl. Next I spent just one night in Pocatello, which is, actually still Idaho, but was as far as the daylight was gonna take me and a friend knew a friend, who was a very sweet man who let me park on his land for the night. Pocatello is nothing great, or rather it’s just every city from what I could tell, but I got an oil change and a tank of gas and some groceries. I didn’t get a chance to visit close-by Twin Falls, but maybe on the way home. It did provide me a beautiful hawk friend, which I appreciate. The video slide is of “Craters of the Moon,” which is a bunch of volcanic rock all piled together making mounds and… craters. I guess people go exploring in them and get disoriented and lost and die. I didn’t go too far from the side of the road and made it out okay. Listen to their sound! So interesting. Landed in Salt Lake City for lunch, but didn’t leave till morning. Ended up meeting some good hearts and had a little bit of a rowdy night with @s.idvicious , and wound up getting my country fix while meeting sweetheart @muskrat_jones_ We stayed up till five with singing to the wind and talking about the good stuff, and while reluctant to leave, the promises of Moab put wings on my heels and away I went.
Well, say goodbye to the Idaho camp and to the Sawtooth Mountains. Both were very good to me. Check out the mama osprey on the third slide, putting on a bit of a show I think because she was mad my footsteps were alerting the rodents and interrupting her hunting; you can see her feeding her baby in the next. What a wonderful place to be. Be patient, I’m still playing catch up with all these pictures and experiences.

My rainy camp 🤍
There were about 10,000 fish in there, and they were hopping up out of the water all night to snack. I fell asleep to their little plop-plops, and their little plop-plops were the most gentle alarm I’ve ever had
Forgot to tell you I made it safe and sound to Kalispell. There’s some real winding mountain roads out here!
I’ll be here for a few days, not really full wild yet.
The fires are awful, smoke smoke everywhere. I read Montana is the nation’s leading fire control priority at the moment. It did make the dusk air into a pink shroud delivering me into town; I liked that.
Another fat chonk for you. Pretty girl.

Philadelphia was *wonderful*. I wasn’t expecting people to be rude, but have become so used to Seattle’s general disinterest in other people. Philadelphians were SO remarkably kind, so generous, so FUN. I’m happy to be home and am realizing that I have less than two weeks before my Long Drive; so much to do 😳
So many thanks to @caitlinmcochran@tocci.j@flashmcgash@gilly_m for contributing to my lovely little trip, and countless PA folks I’ll probably never see again for being wonderful.
