There’s not a single soul that has had more of an impact on my life than you. From my general interest to my vocation. I could say we spent a lifetime curating one another.
I remember the day we met in the Art at Work program I think we were 14 or 15. You had on a KOЯN shirt and a cowrie shell necklace, which was a wild juxtaposition, especially at the time. It wasn’t socially acceptable for little Black kids to like metal music back then.
I mentioned the shirt and said that I liked them, but I had only heard the singles, none of the albums. The next day, I came back to the program and you gave me a cassette tape you dubbed with the Issues album and a bunch of other random songs by them on it.
We were locked in the whole summer after that me, you, and @heemcollective . I met your older brother Damante that same summer, the first time I was over at your house. Same day I took my first hit of weed.
Years went by, and y’all became like my brothers, and your mother like my mother.
It’s so inconceivably painful to lose him too the day before your first posthumous birthday. I’ll try to take some comfort in knowing that whatever lies beyond, you two are together now.
I’ll forever love and miss you both.
