Late for school with things on the mind
120x180cm, oil on linen 2024
Revisiting a feeling in my work lately from around 5 years ago, I was titling all the work I made then the same as above because it summarised everything so well for me. This time I'm finally doing it via direct portraits, and it feels so right, whereas back then I was trying to produce anything but a portrait.
I thought I was a paper convert 4 life but it turns out everyone was right and linen is pretty nice to work on too. 😊
Thanks to my amazing sitter. 🩷

2 weeks until London Original Print Fair 2026 🧡☀️
The RHODES Editions stand (S13) at London Original Print Fair will feature new monotypes from Morag Caister.
Award-winning artist Morag Caister returns to monoprinting following the success of her three previous monotyped series. The delicate nature of the medium, and the Japanese Okawara paper she prints on, perfectly reflects the intimate and soft style of her practice.
LOPF26 will be at Somerset House 14 - 17 May, we look forward to seeing you there.
Email [email protected] for information about new works by Morag Caister or about tickets to the fair.

Installation photos from our recent exhibition, “The Social Animal”, London, April 2026.
Thank you to everyone that came to see the exhibition. It was a privilege to meet so many new faces, and to bring together so many others from the past.
Hopefully these images manage to portray a sense of the exhibition for those that were unable to see it in person.
If you would like to view either the catalogue (which contains high res photos of the all the works included), or the price list of the remaining works then please do reach out.
Thank you again, from the bottom of our hearts.

You know when a room just clicks
Yesterday at Flemings Mayfair, we brought together collectors, patrons, gallerists and artists around The Social Animal - a group show by Ania Hobson, Charlie Schaffer and Morag Caister.
The afternoon seemed to pass in a flash - always a good sign. Conversation flowed and people connected.
A brilliant way to close the show and celebrate the support and love that has shaped these incredible artists.
Thank you for trusting me to bring this together.
Hero’s don’t all wear capes… but we’re pretty sure Henrik would suit one. None of this happens without @travellerhm and his team.
Artist spotlight >> Morag Caister
Morag understands her practice as a search for something true. This truth is not presented as fixed or easily articulated; rather, it emerges through engagement with aspects of the self that are uncertain, fragmented, or unresolved. Her work functions as a space in which less coherent parts of her identity can be met rather than resolved. In this sense, Morag’s paintings resist the idea of the artist as either “beast” or “god”—neither cut off from society nor transcendent of it. Instead, her practice reflects a deeply human condition: the ongoing negotiation between inner complexity and shared meaning. By attending to what is unclear or contradictory within herself, Morag opens a broader consideration of what we are like as people. Her work rests on the willingness to sit with ambiguity and a desire to experience the porous boundary between the self and the world.
Morag’s work is on view until Sunday at Noho Studios in ’The Social Animal’ a group exhibition featuring and presented by Ania Hobson, Morag Caister and Charlie Schaffer.

‘The Velvet Distance (2)’ and ‘(3)’ are two of a collection of new works by award-winning artist Morag Caister, now in ‘The Social Animal’ at Noho Studios, available through RHODES.
Morag Caister is a British artist based in London who graduated from the University of Brighton with a BA in Painting in 2019. As her works are created from live sittings, Caister captures the essence of her subjects through intricate, emotive lines.
In these intimate settings, Caister uses a repetition in the mark-making of her pieces, which, when paired with her thoughtful use of colour, really breathes life into her portraits.
This sparing yet effective style of paint application results in vivid and dynamic portraits, imbued with comfort and intimacy.

"When someone is sitting for me, their whole life is just there. I feel really close to that person, in that moment. It's like I can just see straight into their story, and all of that goes into the work" - Morag Caister.
What an honour to chat about contemporary portrait painting - and the future of the artist's muse - with the incredible @moragcaister@rhodescontemporaryart whose subjects have included Sir Lenny Henry, trusted friends, and her husband.
