April 2024 marked 3 years of living on the emerald island of Ireland ☘️ 🇮🇪 🇬🇧 With this milestone upon me, this feels like a good time to start sharing more on social media. I don’t have the best track record of sharing my thoughts in the digital world 🫣 I much prefer a live chat, face-to-face! But with living this far from so many friends and family members, I’ve changed my mind. I miss a lot of people and - this will come as no surprise to many of you - I’ve generally got a lot on my mind and a lot I want to say… so with that, here I go! 🤸🏻♀️
Three years ago I moved to Northern Ireland from Bishop, California, with my husband and young daughter. And if I had footage of all the people’s jaws dropping when I shared that fact with them over the last few years, it would make a very funny video! I stand out enough as an American living in Ballycastle, and then I really shock them when I say I moved here from California.
Why Ballycastle? Well, as it’s been with most of the life decisions Simon and I have made together over the last 20 years - because of the rock climbing. 🪨
Ballycastle is the closest town to Fairhead, an incredible coastal crag - 3 miles wide, with rock faces of 330ft for trad climbing, and a field of boulders at its base for bouldering. With our house only a quick 15-minute drive to the parking, we’ve been out there almost every week.🤘
This venue for the bouldering is truly unique - with a constant soundtrack of waves crashing while you climb, the uneven landings to contend with, and the occasional dolphin pod swimming by - (think Chaos Canyon in Rocky Mountain National Park, CO crossed with Mickey’s Beach, CA) - it’s a really special climbing destination and I’ve enjoyed working my way through the classic lines in the boulders.
