Social bouldering and toprope competitions💪
🌱Mountaineering Ireland, in collaboration with @lucy_mitchell3003 , @awesomewallscork , @boulderworldbelfast , @dublinclimbingcentre and @suasclimbingcentre are inviting young climbers to take part in these friendly Grassroots competitions for both social bouldering and top rope climbing.
🏆These competitions will pop up around the country over the summer months, and each competition day will focus solely on bouldering or top-rope climbing.

Battled my way up this bolt to bolt last year.
Got to the top and immediately stripped the draws back out.
A little in dismay of how small those holds could be!
Humbling and motivating at the same time.
Proud to have sucked it up and got back on and happy to have ticked it off 😊

After a big year of work, seemingly endless gym rehab, too little climbing and a late start to the trip due to a small passport issue (I mean who actually checks the expiry date 😅)
I had high expectations of fun but low expectations of sends.
Had a great trip getting on some hard pocket pulling gems, getting humbled as always in Buoux and miraculously finishing on a super high, clipping the chains after a lot of heavy breathing and a small word to myself 😮💨
Can’t believe it … 🙏🙌
So unexpected, the only photo I have from the trip is of this little duck I saw at the crag … so I guess that’s a core memory now ❤️

The Big Bang 2025
Huge thanks to everyone who came and took part.
What a day!
Starting off with the Youth Qualifiers on a 30 bloc scramble where the top competitors made it through to a semi final format finals!
Meanwhile the seniors were qualifying (also a 30 bloc scramble). Age categories fighting for podiums and Open category fighting for finals.
Many prizes later we sat down to watch a spectacle final worthy of the big stage 🙌
Huge well done to all who took part, special mention to the podiums in each categories. Next year, get ready to defend :)
A big day, a big success, and a big thanks to everyone who made it possible!
Events like these are only possible because of a big team of the most important people around! Let’s give it up for the dreamers, the setters, the organisers, the sponsors, the volunteers and of course the competitors!

Junior Big Bang 26 will run early Spring (U11-U19)
The Big Bang 26 will run same time next year but as a senior event only (allowing for a more relaxed and spacious qualification but accommodating all age categories 16 years and up)
Don’t worry, a spectacle final awaits both competitions!

🌟 Meet Lucy! 🌟
We’re excited to announce that @lucy_mitchell3003 — climber, coach, setter, and gym manager from Northern Ireland — will be joining us as a guest speaker 🎤 at the Women’s Bouldering Meet this October in Glendalough!
🧗♀️She’s happiest when high on an overhanging rock face, fighting for the next move, delicately teetering across non-existent footholds or getting sucked into a one-move wonder at the wall!
“It’s all good,” as she would say when asked her favourite.
Her career has been a bit of a turbulent one — from 1st place finishes to first-move falls, hard routes to hard rehab and everything in between. With a bag full of stories and experiences… well, you’ll just have to come and find out more! 💚
