Now streaming: the official soundtrack of WHERE WE STAY.
Making the music for this film was a special process. From the start, we wanted it to add the layer of “in-between” in someone’s final moments. Sounds that would elevate and heal, rather than steer emotion or push down.
In the first draft, @annelottecoster ran a improvised guitar recording through a time-stretcher. This seemingly loose experiment immediately hit the right note. We played it during the edit as we looked through material and were moved by the soulful quality.
Instead of polishing it to perfection, we chose to keep its rawness. It felt like the music was telling us where it wanted to go. Letting go of control, keeping any imperfections, we added two more pieces made in the same way. It guided the edit, rather than the other way around.
When I listen to these tracks on their own, I don’t just see the film. I see the moment I had to say goodbye to my father. I see all the stories that inspired this film, and the stories the audience brought to it.
We hope the music can offer a bit of comfort or inspiration, wherever you are.
There’s a snail on my window, I don’t know how long it took to get there.
I live on the last floor of a 4 story high building, that’s no place for a snail.
and yet.
Here it is. Climbing up and up and up.
I wish you could hear the sound of its ascension, this slow crips of the window like tires on concrete.
But so much slower, infinitely so.
And yet, it climbs up and up and up.
It’s a bit hard to put into words the beauty of this moment, the emotions of it.
I feel so proud of this little snail climbing up my window.
And as I am going to sleep I hope it will reach the top before sunrise.
So it can wake up with the sun on its face. Happy - perhaps - to have reached its final destination.

Went for a walk yesterday with my notebook and my camera. Found a cool spot, spent an hour taking shots, wrote a smol poem, went home, lost my mind editing it all and voilà. It ain't perfect but it doesn't have to be. Enjoy ✨
