The Sickly Hecks are dead. Long live MOONPOOL.
Long winded caption incoming…
The last few years performing as The Sickly Hecks have been a real ride. We’ve gone through a lot of highs and lows, our fair share of band members, love and loss, yada yada yada. It’s been the time of my life tbh.
I look back at “Silver Tongue”, the first EP I made under the moniker “The Sickly Hecks” very fondly. (I didn’t even have a band at the time, I was just hopelessly in love with the idea of being a band.) I hear an angsty kid filled with hope and despair and heartache and all the stupid beautiful spite and yearning you can expect out of a teenage boy who grew up on the lofi garage punk of the late 00s and early 2010s.
Along the way, I teamed up with Steven and we hit the golden era of Hecks. House shows, 1 million beers, a DIY record we tracked at his place. Some big shows. Some small shows.
Over the past couple years since we relocated to Denver, we’ve somewhat fallen out of love with the garage rock our band had cut our teeth on. Our apartment jam sessions became more loopy and experimental, playing around with synths and trying out different sounds.
We teamed up with the incredibly talented Izaiah about a year ago, and began working on some new stuff. It felt different. A lot different than the jangly lofi garage pop we started on.
And that rocks. Change rocks. Usually. Certainly, in this case.
If change is inevitable, you may as well embrace it.
All this reminiscing is to say: We’ve decided to change our name to reflect this departure.
We’d like to invite you to celebrate our rebirth as moonpool at The Skylark Lounge on the 25th playing with
@plastic.mystic and
@tinyhumans123 . We’re also opening for
@cardinalbloomofficial at Globe Hall February 21st.
Expect our debut release as moonpool soon.
Bare with us as we get our streaming services sorted out.
Thanks for being part of the ride and much love to you all
- Raymond
