We would like you to meet the wonderful Hana (she/her) Hana (@_what_is_to_be_done_ ) is a Japanese-Australian living on Whadjuk Noongar land in Boorloo (Perth) and has been in and around the local activist, unions, and community building circuits for a while. A fun fact is that her name means ‘flower’ in Japanese. Her joy is found in solidarity amongst and between communities, especially when people come together to make something good.
Hana is the artist of the beautiful logo, which depicts a sleepy bunny resting on a moon. Big thanks and love for Hana for creating this work - we love you Hana! 💕
Image Description:
1. Hana is smiling, is dressed in black against a wall with a projection of a blue hue with yellow wavy lines.
2. A drawn image of a bunny sleeping on a crescent-shaped moon filled with a repeating pattern. The image has some stylistic text that reads “Moon Hangs”.
Moon Hang arose out of countless video and phone calls between Izy, Jessie and JD who collided and lamented over some strong feelings with connection with other 2nd generation diaspora, and realised we needed a gentle space to gather, play & rest with other creative/queer Asian folk in Boorloo.
Moon Hang is a monthly community gathering for “pan-Asian” folk who find the term helpful and interested in intentional intercultural connections. Gatherings are word-of-mouth with a focus on food as a gathering point.
We embark on shared activities, sharing stories and creative play, mutual support and sharing of resources in celebrating cultural identities. We intend to build connections with intergenerational diaspora and newcomer migrants, with acknowledgement of these nuances.
With the full moon as our guide, each event can be facilitated by anyone in our community with our events currently taking place across Boorloo (Perth) in Whadjuck country (so-called the South-West of Western Australia).
We are excited to finally (gently) launch Moon Hang which will include a new mailing list for invites to future events.
Thank you for everyone’s support so far and will see you at the next full moon! 🌕
