#sewing #thrift #flip #DIY
This time last year i handmade baby Z a little dress for her 2nd birthday using notions from Abuelaâs hand-me-down sewing kitâbuttons, thread, and a dash of the love and magic I inherited from her too.â¨
this little dress was the first item of clothing i made completely from scratch. From a Winnie the Pooh fabric bed skirt I found on my thrifting adventuresâa character i grew up loving, and baby Z loves now. I drafted the dress in my head and guessed at all the measurements. The stitches werenât in any way perfect, and you could see all the details of me learning as I went.â¨
showing Abuela what i made with her tools, hearing her say âyou did greatâ with the limited speech she has left... my eyes water every time i watch it. that moment holds everything for me: her love, her pride, her legacy, the magic passing from her hands to mineâit all circles back. âBack to the house at Pooh corner by one,â back to Abuelaâs house where sheâd bathe us kids and sit us on that Winnie the Pooh blanket, adorning us with royal violet perfume on our soft skin. back to why i named my cat Winnie. back to love repeating itself in the sweetest ways. â¨â¨I didnât realize at the time of making this dress how special it was, only that it brought me so so so much joy to make. To see Milly and baby Zâs reactions when seeing it for the first time and then later knowing how much it was adored. It makes my heart glow. This is what creating is all aboutâsharing and celebrating.â¨
Cheers to tiny dresses, borrowed buttons, and Winnie the Pooh connecting generations <3
and Iâd DO it AGAIN!
Yall! to be blessed with the job of outfitting + costuming @nicoleblaircurtis âs show âSend on the Clownsâ felt divine, like destiny, like a coming of age movie where that odd girl character finally finds her groove and sheâs glowing from the inside out.
I guess it may have come as no surprise that more than 50% of the costumes came from my own personal closet, but the rest came from my side project @shopmomslaundry where I restore and rework vintage garbs and give them new life!
This show felt like weâre all my super powers came into play and made sense in one role (rather than the usual odd jobs everywhere lol.) Iâm so thankful I got to experience this feeling. Donât mind me if I go ahead and chase that feeling some more as I add costumer to my rĂŠsumĂŠ. đ
I love my baby clowns! Canât wait to play again (:
