At the root of Monsoon Tea lies
one single question:
How can we make sure local communities earn more money while also preserving nature?
Our answer to this question is the Forest Friendly Tea concept which in theory is rather simple. We pay more money for tea grown together with nature compared to tea grown in monoculture plantations. This way our producers don’t need to use any pesticides, fertiliser or irrigation system and biodiveristy is allowed to thrive.
In practice it’s however more difficult as we also have to find people and companies in Thailand and around the world willing to pay the premium for this more expensive, forest-grown tea.
This is why we create fun blends and exquisite pure teas with interesting product design and unique flavours in mind with the goal to attract tea lovers at all levels. As we sell more tea and the company grows bigger we are then able to work with more communities and bring them onboard our mission of preserving biodiversity. It’s a unique case of more business and production actually leading to increased nature conservation.

Wild tea in Northern Thailand 🇹🇭🌳
Alongside neighbouring countries, Northern Thailand is part of the homeland of tea. Here tea plants have existed wild in nature since long before humans started to populate the mountains and later on discovering the fantastic properties of tea.
Each year we work with our partners in a local hill tribe to source small quantities of wild tea leaves to make our most exclusive teas Jungle Green, Jungle Black and Jungle Oolong. While wild tea only makes up for a very small part of our sales, we believe it can increase the spotlight on the region as a whole, turning attention towards all the fantastic tea from different producers in Thailand.
This wild tea proves that not only does Thailand make great tea, it’s actually part of the homeland of tea with an incredibly rich story to be told 🌳

Monsoon Tea in ten seconds 💚🇹🇭
The forested mountains, the wildlife, the people. This is why we created the concept of Forest Friendly Tea more than a decade ago here in Northern Thailand.
Coming from a long background in the tea industry in Europe, our founder Kenneth wanted to prove that it was possible to create fantastic teas in other ways than the typical monoculture plantations found around the world. With a love for these mountains and the nature they hold he coined the term Forest Friendly to describe something that went beyond organic and put even more emphasis on biodiversity conservation.
Today our impact in the mountains is stronger than ever, thanks to all of you drinking our teas and supporting our work. The more tea we sell, the more people we can collaborate with in the mountains to protect these incredible ecosystems and this is why we say that drinking our tea is probably one of the easiest way to directly contribute to the welfare of our planet and its inhabitants 🌳

Moments in the mountains last week as members of our team surveyed land plots and visited some of the many smallholder farmers we collaborate with to produce Forest Friendly Tea.
We are currently preparing the payment of biodiversity bonuses to our partners based on data collected from our biodiversity traceability system launched last year. When improving or preserving biodiversity our partners not only receive a higher pay for their tea, but now they’ll also receive bonus payments based on their contributions to life on our planet.
Who pays for this? You do of course! Thanks to all of you supporting our work and drinking our teas we have the possibility to continue improving our practices and rewarding the people closest to the source. The more tea we sell, the more people in the mountains we can start to work with and in turn protect more nature. This is what we mean by protecting nature with each sip of Forest Friendly Tea 💚🌳

A tiny spider has built its home across a tea leaf, protecting the plant in a healthy ecosystem.
Spiders, butterflies, wasps, lizards and many more species all have a home amongst the tea.
At Monsoon Tea our loyalty lies with nature.
We strive to grow tea in the most sustainable way possible, without the use of pesticides, fertilisers or irrigation systems.
We are acutely aware of the threat monoculture production systems pose for biodiversity and want to show that there are alternative ways to make fantastic teas.
By working together with nature instead of against it, we make sure that wildlife, people and plants can thrive. All while you can support this work by simply enjoying a great cup of tea 💚🌳

With the addition of four more bestselling flavours, our first series of tea bag boxes is complete! 💥
Eight of our most popular forest-grown teas have received this special treatment and are now available both in our stores and online.
While we have always recommended to brew our teas using a pot or strainer we respect that many people don’t have that option or simply prefer tea bags. With this product we use the exact same tea as we pack in our loose leaf tins and bags, just in a packaging that opens up opportunities for more tea lovers to discover Forest Friendly tea from Northern Thailand. The more tea we sell, the more nature we can protect and this marks an important milestone on our journey to create a different tea industry with people and planet in mind 💚🌳

The road isn’t always so straightforward when doing things differently!
Many of the areas here in Northern Thailand we collaborate with to produce Forest Friendly tea are remote and difficult to access. Your normal car will only take you so far and you need experienced people to help drive the sketchiest stretches.
Even if most things are more difficult going about our business this way, we believe it’s worth it every step of the way to provide remote communities with sustainable income that contributes to protecting nature and preserving biodiversity.
The more tea we sell, the more areas we can start to work with and promote nature-friendly practices which means all our work is made possible by all of you drinking our teas and buying our products as gifts for the people you love 💚🌳

Our wellness collaboration with @limberstudio 🤎
This blend is inspired by the heart of Limber—more than a movement studio, a space for growth, curiosity, and balance.
Rooted in holistic wellness of body, mind, and spirit, it’s a gentle reminder that one small step can lead to something truly meaningful🌿
One of our tea factories in the mountains 💚
All our tea is grown and produced right here in Northern Thailand in collaboration with a number of local communities in different areas in the most sustainable way possible:
Without the use of pesticides, fertilisers or irrigation systems, in harmony with the surrounding nature and biodiversity.
As we sell more tea and grow the business we can continue to work with more communities in the mountains and pay them more for tea grown according to our Forest Friendly principles. More tea sold = more nature protected.
Another goal of ours is to have the tea produced as close to the source as possible to increase the earning possibilities for these remote communities. This way people can find work and make a living not only of picking and growing the tea, but also playing a part in the production of the fantastic products you all are enjoying at home 💚🌳

This weekend we broke our sales record at Monsoon Tea JingJai market! 💚🎉
Thank you to everyone who continue supporting our work protecting nature through tea by purchasing our products and drinking our Forest Friendly teas.
As we continue to grow and sell more tea, this means that we can start working with more producers and communities here in the mountains of Northern Thailand and pay them more to grow tea in harmony with nature compared to monoculture plantations.
After more than a decade on our journey we have come a long way, but still have plenty of ground to cover to promote sustainable practices in the tea industry and promote tea from Thailand. None of it would be possible without all of you sharing our teas with friends and family and we will continue working hard to provide you with fantastic blends and unique pure teas to put sustainable tea from Thailand on the map! 🇹🇭🌳
