Salon des Refusés: A Participatory Drawing Ritual Hosted by La Pocha Nostra
La Pocha Nostra invites you to an evening where the traditional life drawing class becomes a live performance laboratory.
For centuries, artists have gathered around the human body to study proportion, discipline, and form. Salon des Refusés revisits this tradition and turns it inside out.
Throughout the night, a rotating cast of models, dancers, and performance artists will inhabit a series of live tableaux across the historic nave of Saint Joseph’s Arts Society. Some poses will reference classical traditions; others will move toward improvisation, theatricality, and aesthetic disruption.
Audience members are invited to draw, sketch, or simply observe as the room evolves from careful observation to expressive experimentation.
The evening is guided by La Pocha Nostra
@lapochanostra founder Guillermo Gómez-Peña
@mad.mex55 and close collaborators Courtney Desiree Morris and Rachel Znerold.
No drawing experience is necessary. Bring curiosity, a sketchbook, and a willingness to become part of the ritual.
Audience members are encouraged to bring: Sketchbooks, pencils, water-based markers, watercolor sets
Materials provided: Pencils, newsprint, drawing boards (limited quantity)
Materials not allowed: Charcoal, oil paint, acrylic paint, spray fixative, pastels
Photography policy: No photography or video during the drawing session. The focus is on presence and on documentation through drawing.
