2021 | Reuse the Fallen Church competition, promoted by @reuseitaly

Location: Grottole (MT), Italy
Rethinking the Fallen Church, heritage of memories and emotions of the citizens, means approaching an unfinished opera and interpreting the existing not as a problem but as a vital resource. The passage of times leaves a positive mark on the building and represents the starting point for establishing a dialogue with the present.
The design intent is to give new life to the ruin by working on the idea of continuity, preserving the maximum of information contained in the artifact, and entrusting the new structures the task of creating a functional connection with the existing.
The project aims to integrate the new functions, without altering the perception that the small community has of the ruins, identifying a new piece of city with all its emotional and significant values.

“A masterclass in linework, this piece shows off the power of mastering the medium used. With simply a line drawing the creators have achieved great legibility, character and interest through inhabiting a strong composition and subtle moments of detail giving focus to the activities dotted across the piece. The layering of detail and lineweights is fundamental to the success of this drawing.
The people and vegetation within the drawing brings the piece to life, the soft shadows pulls the piece together with a clever use of layers. The judges felt this drawing was an outstanding example which deserved to be highly commended for its success as an architectural drawing.“
