MODEM-05 is mail. Kind of a newsletter, kind of a zine, definitely an art project. The mail is actual mail in your actual mailbox once a month. It’ll go out early each month, to wherever in the world, like a letter in an envelope. If you want to know more about it or sign up to get mail or just to receive internet-based updates, there’s a link in my bio. I’m running this operation through patreon, at least for now, because it made the most sense for what this is looking to accomplish. Anyway, it could be cool. Getting mail is cool. One year to the day since the release of First Tone’s archival “1” album, we have “2” - two long-form pieces taking the musical partnership of Duane Pitre and Turk Dietrich further into the expansive space where their “Reactions” LP for Spectrum Spools was forged.
As with “1” we’ve put the work to tape, featuring cyanotype artwork by Manon Bellet on risograph inserts produced by Constance. We’ve also done up a second run of “1” cassettes in case you missed them last time. Find them both on Bandcamp now and on Boomkat soon. Stay tuned for more. Thanks for listening.

First Tone is Duane Pitre @duanepitre (solo works on Important Records, Root Strata, NNA Tapes) and Turk Dietrich @secondwomansw (duo works with Belong and Second Woman on kranky, Spectrum Spools, and Tresor). Their 2019 ‘Reactions’ LP on Spectrum Spools was the culmination of a journey through sound exploration and melding of each of their personal styles, approaches, and textures across a series of works not previously released. The third modemain edition will be the home for these archival works. The first of these releases, ‘1’ is out today.
