Got to celebrate my 90yr old on Saturday & the theme: BEER.
Unfortunately, due to the traumatic event that happened that morning, I was pretty shook up all day & didn’t get any pictures. But the banner looked great!

There were a lot of similarities between calligraphy skills and piping skills but using icing was so much trickier!
Some similarities:
•using pressure
•starting and stopping my lettering
•having my cookie at an angle
What was challenging was that I was going way too far ahead of my icing and stopping at the loops so it doesn’t cross over and instead picking back up.
I learned a new skill but def won’t be turning this into a business. Leaving THAT to the professional 😂
I even had my own signature on the back of each card.
I learned scrapbooking from my grandma which turned into card which turned into posters for school which turned into wedding signs & my calligraphy business.
I’ve always been a crafter 😁
A good reminder at such an important time right now.
I’ve been listening to a lot of spoken word and reading poetry. I just love how creative humans are and how meaningful words are, how important it is to be using our own voice to speak about our beliefs & amplifying other voices that are often left unheard.
In the midst of extreme heaviness, I’m surrounding myself with creativity. Something about watching other people in their passions and making things from nothing is helping me see more joy.

To be clear, I’m outraged at the fact that hundreds, maybe thousands of people have been kidnapped and/or are missing from ICE detention centers. The inhumane treatment of humans in those centers, unable to contact family or lawyers. The mistreatment of non-citizens AND citizens. There have been 3 ICE murders just this year and this President has zero empathy or compassion and lies when the evidence is on video.
That’s what enrages me.
One of my favorite December traditions is to write a letter to my future self.
I write about what the previous year was like, what December Advent was like, what worked & what didn’t, and what I hope for the next year.
Then, I put it in my stocking to open next December.
