Before I made my engraving course in 2019, the industry was very secretive. It was difficult to find information on engraving machines and supply sources. Nobody would share their methods or tricks online. There were a couple of people teaching in person workshops if you could travel to them but the registration alone was in the thousands (say what?!). Most engravers had enjoyed a long run of little competition and they wanted to keep it that way. The people who were willing to share were scared the others would get angry with them because itās a small world and most of us knew each other. Well, having been a public school teacher, I just come from a place of sharing information. I decided to make a video course that included everything I could possibly think of that was helpful to me as an engraver so that people all over the world had easy access. It was also important to me that the price be reasonable (high enough to reflect the value but low enough that itās accessible). I have now had hundreds of students and the world of engraving is opened up! I may have ruffled feathers but I think people have gotten over it. š Mostly, Iām super proud to know that Iāve made an impact and been instrumental in changing the industry. Itās no longer a closed club of exclusive engravers. Now, anyone who wants to can enjoy this art for pleasure or as a way to enhance their business.
Itās been a while since I made the videos but itās not like anything changes. Glass is still glass. Metal is still metal. Stone⦠you get it. The equipment and supplies have not changed. The techniques are the same. Burs still function the same. So, I leave it well enough alone including the price even though I see other online courses now charging double. But thatās okay. Iām just happy people love engraving as much as I do!

Juicy Italics! I have to say that the wet ink satisfaction is on overdrive with a broad edge nib! Iām already excited for Sachinās class next month. And I want Patti to notice my bird beak! š„š¦
Sachin will be teaching Italics in June and then you have four months to watch the replays. If you are new to broad edge, check out Pattiās BE Tips & Tricks class. Those two have been my main broad edge mentors and I could not love them more! learncalligraphy.com
Suzanneās Casual Copperplate takes classic elegance and relaxes it for those projects that need something a little more playful but still just as stunning. Suzanne does not teach that Modern script means āanything goesā but instead shows you how still respecting the classic rules to develop another style, will make yours stand out. And we all need various options to use when the formal hands just arenāt the right fit for the occasion. Spring tea party, baby announcement, beach weddingā¦this hand conveys a relaxed yet elegant vibe.
Sheās teaching it this month! (Over four months to watch recordings.) learncalligraphy.com

Copperplate has a timeless elegance thatās hard to resist. š
The more time you spend with it, the more you start to notice the beauty in every swell, every hairline, and every small detail coming together.
In this Copperplate class with Suzanne Cunningham, youāll be guided step by step through the essentials. From foundational strokes to full alphabets, youāll learn how to control your pressure, refine your spacing, and create smooth, confident letterforms.
You also get a full year of access, so you can take your time with the drills, revisit lessons, and work through common challenges at your own pace until everything starts to feel natural.

I left some projects unfinished on my desk. And my dog that Francisco says is not a real dog. Five more days in Florida with Master Penman Vivian Mungall of Zillerās Studio. Itās an engrossing wonderland!
May is a good time to slow down and really enjoy the process. āØ

What I love most is that you donāt have to rush. You can join live or go at your own pace, replay lessons, and spend extra time on the strokes that need it, no pressure, just practice.
