This piece connects back to my residency at the Brinton Museum — those long drives toward the Bighorn Mountains at the end of a painting day.
My plein air practice remains foundational — not as an end in itself, but as fieldwork. Painting on site sharpens observation, light, and atmosphere. In the studio, those experiences expand into larger, more contemporary compositions. It’s a way of honoring the tradition of plein air while allowing it to evolve into large-scale work.
