Last night, I had the chance to step in as the arena host for the @gleaguewarriors — my first opportunity to do what I love at the G-League level.
It made me think back to four years ago, when I was a freshman walking into the Santa Clara Athletics marketing office, ready to pitch myself as the next DJ for men’s basketball. Instead, they suggested I try arena hosting first. A position that had never been done before at SCU, so it was a much more trial-and-error position than learning and shadowing a previous person. One game was all it took - I fell in love with the energy, the crowd, the connection. And four years later, that feeling hasn’t faded for a second.
Getting to help shape the gameday experience at any level is an honor, but stepping onto a G-League court made me appreciate just how far this path has taken me.
So I’ll end with the advice my mom gave me back in high school — the same advice that’s allowed moments like this to happen:
Say yes. Show up early. Stay humble. Be yourself.
