First Point Collegiate Challenge & Southwest Boys Classic

The AJV family is heartbroken to share that our founder and Executive Director, Glen Lietzke, passed away on Christmas morning after a private and courageous 4+ year battle with cancer. Glen’s fearless and innovative leadership over the past 42 years forever changed the landscape of volleyball—not only in Texas, but across the country. His unwavering commitment to the youth of Central Texas and his passion for growing the game created countless opportunities and touched thousands of lives. His legacy leaves an indelible mark on volleyball in Texas and beyond. Glen’s collegiate coaching career included stops at the University of Wisconsin–River Falls, Southwest Missouri State University, and the University of Texas, where he was part of Mick Haley’s National Championship staff. He also made significant contributions internationally with the USA Junior and Youth National Teams, won GJNC Open Championships with AJV, and was a tireless advocate for the growth of boys’ volleyball at the club and collegiate levels, including his work with the First Point Volleyball Foundation and the creation of the First Point Collegiate Challenge, a men’s NCAA volleyball showcase. Beyond coaching, Glen played a pivotal role in expanding playing opportunities for athletes across the United States. His impact included the creation and development of events such as the Lone Star Classic, Tour of Texas, and the Southwest Boys Classic, along with major contributions to the national qualifier process and the USA Volleyball National Championships. Glen was inducted into the AVCA Hall of Fame in 2018 and the Greater Austin Sports Foundation Hall of Honor in 2022. Glen was a passionate visionary and pioneer in volleyball and the relationships he formed through the volleyball community were so meaningful to him. He surrounded himself with really good people that helped him grow the sport he loved so much. Of all he accomplished, he was the most proud of his children, Nathan and Lauren, and counted the 20+ years he had with them as the best years of his life. Glen’s leadership and love for the game will live on through the athletes, coaches, and communities he inspired.
