This October, we were honored to have a booth at @swabartfair in Barcelona, Spain. As the only artist-run gallery of our kind, it was a privilege to introduce the rich history and practices of Mexican artisan work to an international community, and to share space with galleries and projects from around the world. Thank you to artistic director Carolina Diez-Cascón of @swabartfair for reaching out to us directly to apply. Y mil gracias a mi mano derecha y a mi nueva amiga @coralfff who traveled from Mexico to represent her father @tapicesdeadrian at our booth. 🌹

SWAB Barcelona Artist Spotlight: Doña Viviana Alávez | Casa Viviana Doña Viviana Alávez was born in 1946 in Teotitlán del Valle, Oaxaca. Orphaned at a young age, Doña Viviana was raised by her Zapotec grandmother, who was a master candle maker in the community, having learned the tradition from her own mother. Doña Viviana was eight years old when she made her first candle, and went on to develop and forge her own tradition with it both as an artist and entrepreneur. Today, Casa Viviana consists of Doña Viviana and her family, who we’ve had the pleasure of working with over the past few years. All candles are made entirely by hand, of 100% beeswax, and dyed with natural pigments in the Zapotec tradition. We are proud to bring some of Casa Viviana’s pieces with us to @swabartfair , Barcelona. Please DM or email us for more details on Casa Viviana and on the pieces we currently have for sale.

SWAB Barcelona Artist Spotlight: Adrián Gómez Ramírez Adrián Gómez Ramírez was born in Oaxaca de Juarez, Oaxaca, in 1950. He studied printmaking at Benito Juarez University, Oaxaca, and traditional textile dying and weaving from master textile artisans in Teotitlán del Valle, Oaxaca, and Mexico City. His work incorporates a variety of traditional weaving methods, using natural fibers such as cotton, pita, ixtle, wool, alpaca, and silk. He dyes primarily with natural pigments including indigo, pericón, cochineal, and walnut. Adrián experiments with jewelry, painting, ceramics and objects d’art. He has shown extensively both nationally and internationally since the 1970’s, in galleries, museums, art fairs, and public spaces. He has also led numerous weaving workshops to communities within Mexico and around the world. We are so proud to bring Adrián’s work to @swabartfair , Barcelona, and are especially excited to have his daughter, Coral, representing him with us at the fair. Please DM or email for info on Adrián and his work.

SWAB Barcelona Artist Spotlight: Irma García Blanco Irma García Blanco was born in Santa María Atzompa, Oaxaca, in 1959. She started working with clay at the age of six, helping her mother, renowned ceramicist Teodora Blanco, by making small figures in their family’s taller. She has since been established as one of the great masters of Mexican Folk Art, receiving numerous awards and inclusions in collections both nationally and internationally. She is most known for her muñecas, though we have an affinity for the simple olla shapes, covered in hand-sculpted flowers of natural clay. We are so excited to bring the work of Irma García Blanco to @swabartfair , Barcelona. Please DM or email us for details on her and her beautiful work.

Participating in this year’s NADA Miami Art Fair was a dream come true. It was a joy to introduce ourselves at our second pop up ever, and an honor to represent our artists in the context of an art fair. Thank you endlessly to @newartdealers for having us, to our community of family and friends who have supported and championed us, and to each and every person who stopped by to chat, ask questions, inquire about the artists and purchase work. We are so excited for what the future holds. Welcome to our MMUNDO! 💫
