LINA’S HOUSE. Bo Bardi’s chosen São Paulo site for a home shared with her husband was once a treeless look out point, hovering above the nearby river.
Manifesting the first abode in the area, an elegant modernist lookout perched high on pilotis, the couple hosted handfuls of guests throughout their curated environment of folk and modern art, furniture designs prototyped by Bo Bardi, spiritual relics & gardens.
Lina baked bread in the oven outside. A garage-like cove beneath the house on first approach offered a rotation of made and found objects, small mosaics embedded into the white walls, and sometimes an overflowing gallery of plants.
Many of the matured trees Bo Bardi selected for the land have been identified as removals in a master conversation plan recently funded by the Getty.

🌬Radical, Research, water roofs, ‘nature-near’ Neutra: 1932/1949/1963 @vdlhouse cared for today by @calpolypomona 🤍
The Austrian-American designer believed that the ‘event’ of sliding a glass door open to a garden had the ability to “satisfy by the moment...with the thrill of a lover.” His homes described as pleasure palaces (Sylvia Lavin) due to such functions. Does it get any better?

@japanhousela spectacular exhibition on kumihimo - the art of braided cords - originating in sixth century Buddhist temples - still produced today by @domyo_kumihimo crafting by hand since 1652. Applied in costume, interiors, shrines and more, the form of ultra strong braided silk has recently been explored for usage in contemporary architecture & engineering.
Thank you @japanhousela for your inspiring program, and tour of the library 📚❤️

👀 Alexander Girard chandeliers, detailed painted doors, mural, benches, tile work, wall-clock? 🤔 at St. John’s College Santa Fe. While working on the La Fonda del Sol NY project, Girard, who had a home in Santa Fe, was invited to design the interior of the new Student Center on campus @sjcsantafe . Miraculously, for a growing university, many of his elements remain & were celebrated during the @vitradesignmuseum exhibition but a solid care plan & Girard books in the neat university bookstore would be good! @girardstudio@sjcsantafe@internationalfolkartmoifa

The whole world is hometown...a place that makes you say “I wish she could see this,” whomever she may be. 🌞Alexander Girard’s most touching work, his loved-filled arrangement & installation of tens of thousands of folk art objects the world over which the late designer donated to @internationalfolkartmoifa along with the long term exhibition, 1982, with items high & low, for everyone. What did modern come to mean?
(A guide to each object available onsite/line).

Former IBM Aerospace Headquarters (1964) designed by Eliot Noyes; concrete clad facade with window fenestration inspired by computer punch-cards per @ibm machines once housed within. A similar treatment was applied to the metal heat vent covers in the lobby of the former IBM headquarters in Pittsburgh. Noyes’ design is now celebrated as the heart of @otiscollege campus, Westchester, Los Angeles.

A trained artist & architect @ucberkeleyofficial@uscarchitecture , NYC-born Zelma Wilson brought her family to Ojai California in the mid-1960s from France, where they had self-exiled due to pressure on her husband, writer of controversial Salt of the Earth (1952).
Along the east end of a valley in Ojai she designed the Tibetan style buildings in 1972 that became @meditationmount - the concept of Florence Garrigue - their purpose was the fostering of meditation to benefit the world, which they continue today.
Her sister said of Zelma, “There is nothing that came into her sphere that didn’t get her full attention.” How unique 🤍🍊📐
