“One Day” composed and orchestrated by me :) I wrote this envisioning a character who dreams of making it in the world someday. Sort of an instrumental “I want” song—I had “Go The Distance” and “Out There” on repeat while writing this and was deep in that yearning, hopeful headspace. Grateful and honored doesn’t even begin to describe how I am feeling. Earlier this week, I experienced the privilege of a lifetime—sharing the stage with my hero, the legendary @alanmenken Many of my friends, mentors, and peers know that he’s the reason I wanted to become a composer. Alan’s extraordinary artistry and masterful craft go without saying. But the more I’ve had the fortune of being immersed in his world and interacting with him, it is his big heart that I am truly drawn to. His compassion, genuine curiosity, and ability to empathize with others on such a deep level is what makes him such a profound storyteller. So to have “Home”, a song I wrote and orchestrated, featured alongside the most beloved music from Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop, The Little Mermaid, Hercules, and so much more has truly been a dream come true. Thank you to @nyuscreenscoring for this surreal opportunity. To Ron and @sergicasanellesabella for your unwavering support. To maestro @tedsperling and my friends in the NYU Broadway Orchestra and Vocal Performance program for bringing so much life to my piece. “Home” is now out on streaming platforms!!! My heart is so so full right now. Up until this point I’ve never really shared my songs with people, let alone something I’ve held so close to me. So this feels so surreal. I wrote this song as a way to process my disconnect from my cultural heritage and the impact that has had navigating my identity and finding a sense of belonging. It is definitely still something I am grappling with but knowing the song exists and that it can hopefully resonate in some form of way to others makes me extremely content and grateful. This song wouldn’t have held the same amount of weight if it weren’t for @carlottaromano_ pouring so much love, emotion, and vulnerability into it. I cannot thank you enough for the time and care you have taken with this project and am beyond grateful for our friendship. Big thank you to @musicbyjamiel for being there every step of the way in the production journey. Your patience and trust in my musical voice means a lot to me.
