What a time! What an incredible opportunity. I was really scared to do this and in fact down to the wire before boarding the flight. I have worked so hard my whole life in this business wanting to prove…well, I’m not sure. That I deserve to be a chef. That Mexican food is the fucking best. That a women, a mother can still follow her dreams. Que me la pelan los hombres que hablan, tratan mal a las mujeres. All of the above. To give up control and step into this huge scene was a trip. I am happy I did it. I wanted an adventure and got it. Yes, I lost but I gained some friends that I did not even realize I was missing in my life. 😘😘😘. Chefs that really have inspired me. Although I do wish I would have loosened up and let my guard down with the cameras, production team more, I tried my best till the last second. Thank you @americasculinarycupcbs for chance of a lifetime. An absolute pleasure to meet the incredible @padmalakshmi . Your palate is sick and are the ultimate taco de ojo. Chefs @wyliedufresne @cimarustila you guys are a class act. Watching you two eat everyone’s food with joy, curiosity & open hearts was some of my fav moments. And thanks to everyone for their love, support throughout this whole journey. Special thanks to my beautiful sister @chicanafromchicago for making this video capturing my time there. Todos Ponen is up for a Community Impact Award from Chicago Tribune’s Reader’s Choice Food Awards! This was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life to be a part of. We were able to feed 125 families affected by ICE, facing job & food insecurity for 8 weeks, while respecting their privacy: their dignity. There was magic in the air that night. The way we all rallied together donating our time, talents, resources, $$$ in such a short turnaround time was incredible. Thank you @chicagotribune for putting us up for this award.
