Huge thanks to all who joined us last Monday for Kelby Clark × Hal Lambert × Mitchell Mobley’s in-store performance. First slide has 20 seconds of audio for a taste of what happened here: it was absolutely wonderful. I’m sure the San Diego show was great too and I think they’re playing Austin next. Do yourself a favor and go see them live if you can! 🦂

Sunday, June 22 Doors: 7:00pm Music: 8:00PM $15 Hal Lambert & Mitchell Mobley: Hal Lambert and Mitchell Mobley play improvised music inspired by drone, noise, and psychedelic rock. Based in South Louisiana, the pair have released recordings on Lambert’s Tentative Power imprint, Island House Recordings, and NO LABEL NZ. Reviews have compared the pair’s music to the free rock of The Dead C, a mellowed out Orcutt-Corsano duo, or Sonic Youth tuning up their guitars. @tentative.power @mitchmob Kelby Clark: Kelby Clark is an improviser and banjo player from South Georgia. He is inspired by the old-time music of his home state as well as drone, free improvisation, raga, noise, and many other forms of both experimental and traditional music from around the globe. Clark has released records and tapes on labels such as Tentative Power, Garden Portal, Working Man Lay Down, Vaagner, and Eastern Nurseries. He is currently based in Los Angeles. @kelbyclark Deathflavorkiss: Melissa Achten and Eli Klausner are two composers, improvisers, and multi-instrumentalists based in Los Angeles. Their decade-long collaboration combines multimedia, live electronics, esoteric objects, and hand-built instruments to create Deathflavorkiss. @deathflavorkiss @harpistemology @55ruecerat ______ 🎟️ Tickets in Bio For all events, mask wearing is highly recommended indoors. 😷 N/95, KN/95, surgical masks suggested. Clark.Lambert.Mobley • 03.12.24 • Incredibly honored and stoked to present this magic trio offering. Available NOW. Please enjoy responsibly. • Hal Lambert, Mitchell Mobley, and Kelby Clark toured together throughout Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi for a week in March of 2024. During the tour, Hal and Mitchell were playing as a duo, and Kelby was playing solo. The day after the last show - they woke up at Hal's house in Baton Rouge and decided to play together in a trio formation for the first time. They turned on a field recorder beforehand, and captured the moments heard on this tape. • In this session, Kelby was playing a low-tuned nylon string fretless banjo, Hal was playing a telecaster with utilization of various effects and extended techniques, and Mitchell was playing an arrangement of both traditional percussion instruments as well as a bowl, bells, tiles as well as other various objects. • Mastered by Ben Livingston @thetidetelevised • Artwork by Bailey Duhon @swansamongthelotus • #kelbyclark #hallambert #mitchmobley #magictrio #auralcanyon

Mitchell and I have a new tape coming out called “The A-Z of Bullshit” on Island House Recordings on 9/29. We recorded this earlier in the year at Earthship Records with Ben Livingston who went above and beyond to make us sound nice. We’re playing some shows in October and we’ll try to recreate some of this material but no promises. Swipe through for a teaser and stream “Cross the Lazy River” in the bio-link. In my head it’s a sonic youth/Grateful Dead reference. Here are some nice words from Jen Powers — It’s possible that the title of Baton Rouge-based duo Hal Lambert and Mitchell Mobley’s album “The A-Z of Bullshit” belies the complexity and extent of its appeal. It’s both propulsive and static; tromping and soaring; humid and arid; charmingly languid and shit-kickingly insistent. It smiles at you wryly even as it considers the plane of eternity. From guitars, drums and other percussive devices, and some banjo work (with a splash of Mellotron from Ben Livingston, who produced and recorded the album at Earthship Records,) Lambert and Mobley conjure a fascinating and pleasingly varying world where most of the action unfolds in midair. There is much to suggest a sensation of hovering, an unfurling of wings, of climbing altitudes, of riding currents that only seem to materialize when the final cloud has been left both below and behind. What begins at ground level in easy-going, friendly pockets of sound inevitably vaults itself into the atmosphere to touch at something sublime. Each piece that finds itself propelled to these heights blooms in unique and surprising ways. Some notes shatter and crystallize, while others fall asleep mid-flight and begin to dream. Some move forward in soft, tumbling spirals, and yet others cascade through the open air, roaringly jettisoning themselves back towards the earth from which they came. This is a proper slice of modern American kosmische that may particularly appeal to fans of Blacks’ Myths, Mute Duo, and Sunburned Hand of the Man. Let it infuse you with some shining, exhilarating peace. -Jen Powers, August 2023

I’ve spent the last few months recording a solo percussion mixtape. It features found objects, prepared strings, broken glass, water, field recordings, and references to Jaws. It focuses on physical set ups and music realized within those physical limitations. The end result is at times agitating, occasionally fun, and sometimes serene. The link is in my bio to buy now and also you can preorder the cassette to be shipped in February! Thanks Hal for encouraging me and releasing it on your label @tentative.power -thanks Ben Livingston for mastering. And thanks Mazzarie for doing the sweet artwork and Jaws video.
