In Norway, the promise of sustainability conceals a quieter system of exploitation.
In this guestbook (made for visitors and participants of several actions against Nussir beginning in June 2025), hundred of entries signal growing domestic and international condemnation of an increasingly accepted mindset in Norway — one where mining on protected land and submarine waste disposal have become synonymous with the pursuit of a cleaner, “greener” future.
We’re going to SXSW! So proud to have shot this alongside my best buddies and directors @lincolnrobischworks & @sarah_maerten . A special shoutout to my killer camera department @thatchicksage and @honkwave , gaffer @lauren.mov and key grip @christiandruitt . We’ve dreamt of a moment like this since we were 12 years old. So proud of the incredible cast and crew who made this happen. See you in Texas!
24 Jan, 2026. Images of protest against the Nussir Copper Mine in Riehpovuotna, Sápmi. Nussir, operated by Canadian mining company Blue Moon Metals and funded primarily by Hartree Partners, an American commodities trading and investment firm, has plans to dump 30 million tons of waste (called “tailings”) into Repparfjord.
While regarded as “the best available technique” (BAT) by Norwegian policy makers, the practice threatens to cripple critical ecosystems and encroach on an already endangered Sámi mode of living.
