After being so well represented at the 71st Miss World by Nokutenda Marumbwa @noku_te_ndaa , a Top 40 quarter-finalist and a co-winner of the important Head to Head challenge, Zimbabwe has crowned a new queen. Marumbwa’s successor is twenty-three-year-old Courtney Jongwe @courtneytjongwe , who was crowned Miss World Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 2024 at a ceremony held on Saturday in Borrowdale, Harare. She won a cash prize, the right to represent her country at the 72nd Miss World Festival and a new car. The runners- up were Yollanda Chimbarami and Life Matunzeni. The competition was organized by Patience Lusengo, Miss World’s licensee in Zimbabwe. Courtney, who hails from Manicaland, told the local media that she was happy to be crowned queen as this was her dream come true. “I am in awe and it is hard to believe,” she said. Courtney said the time had come to give the African narrative while hoisting the nation’s flag. “I am so excited to win this crown; it is an opportunity to let the world know we are taking over. I will use my story to give the African narrative. The world has to know Zimbabwe is here,” she concluded. The contest featured 11 contestants who went on the head-to-head challenge in the first round with seven finalists being selected to proceed to the next round. As the competition intensified, it went down to the last five of which three were to be selected for the final round, where Courtney emerged the queen. A fifth-year chemical and processing engineering student, Jongwe has always shown her leadership skills, having been elected the head girl in high school, and the vice-president of her university’s Student Representative Council.
