Amy Sherald's work and vision is a testament to trusting your capabilities and honing your craft🙌🏾 I'm so grateful for 'American Sublime' and her dedication to expressing the individuation of humans... who happen to be Black🖤
*What was the last inspiring art you've seen?
Look what @blonder.than.necessary and I made🙌🏾 @blackfiberfutures got a grant to pilot Black sustainable home decor, and this lamp is a proof of concept. I made the lamp shade and the beautiful wooden base was made by Nifemi. bftn will be posting more about this project soon🖤
•The yarn I used to weave the shade was a collab between @seed2shirt & @nytextilelab
•I hand dyed the yarn with dye flowers from @highhogfarm
•I constructed the shade frame with old lamp shades from the Goodwill
•Nifemi made the base out of reclaimed maple lumber
I don't always identify as an artist or designer, and have spent most of my career supporting other artists / creatives. I'm grateful for this project to remind me who I am and what I can do with intentional time, materials, and my hands🤲🏾

Woven From Nature, a new documentary short by @blackfiberfutures , spotlights how Black creators are building an ecosystem of sustainable and regenerative practices in fiber, farming, plant dyes, and textiles.
“Our vision is that we can collaborate together and build our own Black regenerative ecosystem,” says Teju Adisa-Farrar, founder of bftn.
“Giving ourselves the ability to build wealth together, to steward the land more together, to learn from each other, and to iterate on what we need to have a future that is both Black, but also regenerative and liberatory.”

The Art before The Storm! I'm so glad I went to the art opening for Journey Of A Black Girl curated by @cbrooksart 🙌🏾 So beautiful, vibrant, inspiring... the vibes were👌🏾Seeing all this delicious art before the winter storm was so fulfilling♾️
A trip to Tuskegee, Alabama. I was so grateful to visit the Tuskegee Airmen Historic Site to learn more about the men (& women) who defied odds in the sky and on the base. I then went to the George Washington Carver (GWC) Museum for my @centerforcraft Craft Archive Fellowship. GWC was an amazing artist, scientist & multihyphenate. He made the paints he used from Alabama clay / soil, and created hundreds of products from peanuts, soybeans, and sweet potatoes (he did not invent peanut butter, btw). His work & legacy is incredibly inspiring🙌🏾

Hello, here's an assortment of selfies I took in 2025. Did you know Frederick Douglass was the most photographed man in (all of) America in the 19th century? He had over 160 portraits taken of himself, many of them were selfies. Happy Friday✌🏾
