The name Yugoslavia has been rooted in social unrest and ethnic conflict since its breakup in the 90s. Fuelled by her Serbian heritage, Miss Mash attempts to resurface the feeling of freedom and vibrancy of the former utopia- through the funk, soul, and rhythms that once soared through it.

Masha caught our eyes and ears with her decadent blend of sun-soaked samba, arabic funk and dubbed out Latin rhythms. Weaving effortlessly through decades, sounds and styles, Miss Mash maps out her unique sonic territory - creating one of a kind soundtracks for revelling dancers across the city. Whether itās warming up a sunny day party, whipping up a percussion-fueled dancefloor frenzy or spinning deep dug soul selections on the radio, you know sheāll always Mash up the dance!

Here are 8 women (+ group) from Yugoslavia that pioneered the music scene in the 60s 70s 80s and 90s. They took up space, stayed true, and did not let any man get in their way despite ongoing wars, misogyny and other things which still affect a majority of women today.

This band means so much to me. The incessant spaceship sounds, the synthesiser wizardry, the conversational singing of the angelic LƦtitia Sadier and Mary Hansen, just a symphony of sonic delight which takes you on a journey across the galaxy.
This track Cybeleās Reverie is from their esteemed album Emperor Tomato Ketchup, and is just one of so many amazing songs. Their back catalogue is one which spans across all corners of Pop, KrautRock, Avant-Garde Jazz and electronic bleeps and bloops.
When I heard that they were headlining this years @weoutherefest I couldnāt believe my lil eyes. It will be a truly spiritual experience and I do think my life will change forever.
If you donāt know about this band, they have over 30 releases for you to dive into and get lost in the weird and wonderful world of Stereolabā¦ you wonāt regret it!

Being big fans of Mashaās, weāve had the pleasure of attending her sets in Bristol over the years. Her vibrant selections have always introduced us to new & groovy music - you can expect a range of genres from YugoFunk to Highlife.
Sheās been a regular resident at Bristolās Love Inn, Balaami & Void radio, and appeared on Zagās YouTube platform My Analog Journal ā¦ her set will be a must-see.

MISS MASH - DOM R - BACK 2 BACK
Revisiting their old stomping ground after a standout bout of residency shows a few years back are strictly vinyl selectors Miss Mash and Dom R, now well established artists in their own right they come back to the Inn for an extended 5 hours B2B.
Since the residency both Masha and Dom have been making ways with their music careers.
From Mashaās wicked 35mins selection of Forgotten Jazz, Soul & Funk Treasures of Yugoslavia via My Analogue Journal and using her undeniable passion for music to organise fundraising events for close & important mental health charities.
Dom continues to be a significant figure in the live scene in the city with both working and playing at Analogue Lounge, Space Jams and help keep community radio station Void alive and thriving with his residency there now.
We think itās fair to say both amazing contributors to the Bristol music scene so we welcome them back with open arms next THURSDAY - 20/11/25 - TIX VIA HEADFIRST + OTD
