From when I was a very young kid, film and video have always played a part of my life, with my grandmother and her 8mm filming, then VHS cameras coming in during my teens. Stretching back to 1985, all of my live shows have had a projected visual component and when possible, I make a video for my releases. The video for The Beings is a deconstruction of the visuals that accompanied @ludus.etc and I when we played the track live at @splorefestival this year Find the link to Youtube in my bio

The Beings, the latest in my Black Mountain Transmissions series, was first performed live at the final @splorefestival , held in Tapakananga National Park, Aotearoa in February 2026. Emma Bernard, AKA @ludus.etc , and I performed an hour long live 4-way audio-visual show that traversed different themes and tempos, with the audio swooping around an audience lying on bean bags and mattresses while visuals were projected on to the ceiling. The quadrophonic recording data was then refined in the studio to create a stereo composition for ultimate listening pleasure. The Beings grows organically and dramatically, engaging the listener in a constant floating motion, with atmospheres changing almost as soon as they’re settled. Nothing lasts: melodies emerge and evaporate, notes chime and cascade, rhythms build and breakdown, basslines drop and disappear. Ludus’s keyboard flourishes bring character and body to my more abstract soundscapes, colouring in the edges and elevating the mood. 🎧 via link in bio or https://fanlink.tv/thebeings

Tune in to @radiozora.fm this Wednesday to hear the live set that @ludus.etc and I played at the final @splorefestival this year. Emma and I performed an hour long live 4-way audio-visual show that traversed different themes and tempos, with the audio swooping around an audience lying on bean bags and mattresses while visuals were projected on to the ceiling. The quadrophonic recording data was then refined in the studio to create a stereo composition for ultimate listening pleasure. Broadcast times from https://2026.radiozora.fm/ are 14:00 and 22:00 UTC on Wednesday and 06:00 on Thursday. For those of you in Aotearoa, this works out at 2am, 10am or 6pm on Thursday. At the forefront of the current wave of Pacific bass music, @toroa.puoro are hitting all the right notes in developing the next generation of indigenous sounds from Aotearoa New Zealand. Brendan (@_shankara_nz ) sent me the original drum'n'bass mix and asked if I could help him find a way to create a ambient version. I got so excited I ended up doing a full remix and am grateful that they've let me release it. The video is a remix of the video made by @remote_is_remote for their main release

The remix of Free Babylon is an interesting one as I have no idea who @_sec_edit_ is! I was asked by @rubadub_ramses , a mutual friend in Holland, if I would make a version of the track, and as the overall sound grabbed me I said yes. I decided to go a bit harder than normal as felt it suited the aesthetic of the original. I hope I get to met the artist one day 🙂

When I first moved to the UK I discovered a whole world of artists who were making dubby electronic music in the 90’s that I had never heard of. So, when asked, I jumped at the chance to remix @children_of_the_bong as part of their celebrating 30 years since they dropped their debut album, Sirius Sounds> I ended up making two remixes, with The Second Cup an alternative version to that released on Sirius Diversions last year. For the video I aimed to re-create the intensity of my mushroom trips way up in the mountains of the South Island in the 90’s

I have known @daveharrow since he first ventured to NZ as part of an @onusound show in the early 90’s, so I was delighted when he asked me to remix a song he was making with @littleanniebandez1 , an artist I have loved for years. Things just flowed and I ended up making not one but three remixes! David chose two for his release and this is the third one to finish the trilogy. The footage for this video was shot in NYC during last year's Halloween processions.

After I was approached to remix Tui Dada Dub by Sshhadow Roots I laid up all the parts and began to explore them, but felt they needed a further haunting melody. I had just been working with @mihowada on a sound design project so I asked her to try a bass flute line over my first draft. It worked really well and lifted the track to another level. The video is a remix of the song's original music video.

The origins of remixing Exodus began when I was live dub mixing a reggae band around 1991 and they played the track at the end of their set. That night the dubs just took off and I always wanted to try and recreate the experience, so years later @paddyfreenz and I as @pitchblacknz gave it a go. For the version on Translations IV I decided to strip the vocals out even further and try and go deeper into the dub. The video was made by @delainy_kennedy at the dawn of AI video.

When I first heard Crown by @deepfrieddubband and @italiksmusic I just had to ask if I could remix it. It’s not often a vocal line really resonates with me but when I heard Sam’s soaring voice with the other sounds I knew it would make a deep dub tune in my style. 🎧 via link in bio or https://fanlink.tv/translations4

I have decided to make a video for each of the tunes on Translations IV and will upload them as soon as they're finished. The first is for the remix of Rewind by @hallelujahpicassos . Back in the early 90's the band used to come into my studio to help me make dub mixes of their tunes, so it was awesome to be able to remix this track as part of the Bobylon celebration last year. I'm happy to present Translations IV: a dubwise descent into deconstruction, mutation and reformation. 🎧 via link in bio or https://fanlink.tv/translations4 For this edition I widened my lens, working with artists across generations and geographies, from foundational reggae to unhinged ambient, Aotearoan electronica to New York avant-dub. Diving deep in to the aural architecture of tracks by @_sec_edit_ , @children_of_the_bong , @daveharrow & @littleanniebandez1 , @italiksmusic & @deepfrieddubband , @hallelujahpicassos , @pitchblacknz and @toroa.puoro , I disassembled each and reimagined them within my sonic world, respecting the original but resculpting them at the same time. The remixes on Translations IV continue the journey of previous editions, taking us deeper into echo, further into the frequencies and ever closer to the bass.
