My happy place. 🙌🏽 A beautiful day to march for immigrant workers, cultural workers and ALL workers! THIS is what democracy looks like. Thank you to our advocacy partners who organized today’s beautiful arts-filled march! @thenyic@handsoffnyc@thepeoplestheatrenyc
We had the joy of welcoming Celines Toribio, Vice Minister of the Dominican Republic, to The People’s Theatre for a construction site visit Uptown 💛
We walked through our space, shared stories about the work, and imagined what’s possible when artists and community come together with purpose. Being in conversation with a leader like Celines feels especially meaningful here, where the Dominican community is such a vibrant and central part of our neighborhood.
For us, this work is about staying rooted in and accountable to the communities that shape Washington Heights and Inwood every day.
Gracias, @celinestoribio for taking the time to connect, listen, and dream with us 🇩🇴
What a great night! 🥳 So many wonderful friends and colleagues at last night’s Hispanic Federation gala. 🙌🏽
In NYC, 1 in 3 identify as Latinos, pero last night, éramos todos!! So many 🇩🇴 women I love in the house! Y cuantas Jefas!! Grateful to be en comunidad celebrándonos. ❤️ (Plus, it was my first time at the museum after hours, so I was definitely loving the “Night at The Museum” vibes!)
Congrats @hispanic_federation , @vegalteno and Lin Manuel for chairing. And to all the honorees! El trabajo y las palabras de @chefjoseandres y @esai_morales fueron impresionante! Thank you!
What an honor! Our executive artistic director and small group of Latino leaders were invited to meet with Governor Kathy Hochul over lunch at the NYS Executive Mansion. Mino had the opportunity to share some of the economic challenges facing our communities and how the arts are part of the solution💪
From Washington Heights to across New York, our message is clear: immigrant communities deserve investment, protection, and real partnership. We’re proud to be part of this network pushing forward, together. ✨
And that’s the end to another great @somos_inc conference in Albany! Two days of connections and conversations with friends and colleagues from legislature and the advocacy, arts and nonprofit sector.
Started the first day with a beautiful and intimate luncheon with Governor Hochul at her Executive Mansion with the with some other Latino leaders and Hispanic Federation. Was honored to be there. Then attended 3 (out of 5!) receptions to end the first day, with special guest @zohrankmamdani ! 🙌🏽
Day two started moderating a panel on arts and culture with Senator Serrano’s office where I was able to engage in an impactful conversation with colleagues from across the state.
Bought some stunning folkloric jewelry and art piece from @crudo_creates and then attended 3 really great workshops across issues impacting the Latino community, including a wonderful fireside chat between two of the most powerful Latina women in the Bronx @amandaseptimo and Taskforce chair @karinesreyes87 . La Lucha continua, mujeres! 🙌🏽
Ended the day at the gala where the uptown legend Rosita Romero was honored among others!
Congrats @somos_inc on another wonderful conference! Glad it was in April this year so we could enjoy some amazing weather. :)
Culture is economic development. Full stop. 👏
In this episode of Mino on Culture and Community, we look at what happens when we invest in artists and cultural spaces as part of how neighborhoods grow and thrive. From local jobs to small businesses to the energy on our blocks, the arts are not extra. They are essential.
At The People’s Theatre, we see it every day in Washington Heights and Inwood. When artists are supported, communities feel it. Watch, reflect, and share with a neighbor who cares about where we live and who gets to shape it. 💛🎭 #culture
A wonderful time celebrating and supporting my Alma mater @manhattanville_university . Especially thrilled to reconnect with the social justice honoree for the night, and my former professor and mentor Randy Williams! ❤️ Thanks to President @mville15pres for the invitation. Over 20 years since I graduated, and so proud and grateful to be an Mville alumn! Purpose, community and making change in the world continues to be nurtured in all students. The idea for @thepeoplestheatrenyc was without a doubt born here years before it came to fruition!
Had a wonderful time at @sunyoswego ’s Women’s Summit, engaging with students and other women leaders! I got the opportunity to share about my work and the impact of @thepeoplestheatrenyc .
Thank you @megan__mcgarvey for inviting me to be part of the keynote panel for this wonderful event! @thestevemazz I loved getting to speak with your impressive students from the theatre program and loved your moderating! (I am also so very grateful I was able to bring my daughter with me!) ❤️
Finally, as a proud @nyscouncilonthearts council member, I loved having this time upstate to see some of the great art and programs happening across our state. The arts are strong everywhere and need to be supported!
@artswego
Most theaters were not built with immigrants in mind. So what does it take to change that?
In this episode of Mino on Culture and Community, we explore what it means to build spaces where immigrants are part of every decision. From the stories we tell to the way we gather, this is how a space becomes truly welcoming.
At The People’s Theatre, immigrant stories are led by the people who live them. And they are full of joy. 💛 #theatre
In the midst of EVERYTHING going on, in the world and in life, grateful to have made time for joy and community, spending 6 days devising with @thepeoplestheatrenyc and this wonderful group of artists.❤️ (And Special thanks to my artistic collaborators @marcosings1 and @marinamontesanti ! )
We’re on @cbsnews 🧡 For over 15 years, we’ve been making theatre across New York with and for immigrant communities. Now, we’re getting ready to open our first permanent home right here in Inwood. This space was built with our neighbors in mind. A place to take a class, rehearse, watch a show, and most of all, share stories in our own languages, cultures, and voices.
And how Mino said: “We all have a history, and no matter where that is, whether you were brought here, without choice, whether you came because of the situations in your country or your ancestors came. We want this space to spark curiosity and joy. Who am I? Where do I come from and where am I going?” 💫 thank you @noelledlilley
