We’ve been seeing a lot of guides recently for how individuals and very public places like coffee shops can respond to an 🧊 raid. Which led to a train of thought… does a private tattoo studio constitute a private property? What happens if 🧊 comes in looking for an artist or a client? 👀
If you’ve had those thoughts before, we did some research for you to help you be prepared legally and mentally.
Shop owners - if you haven’t discussed this in a shop meeting, now’s the time. Come up with a plan, take on the responsibility, and make sure everyone’s on the same page ✊
As we keep seeing the worst happen, legality ignored, there’s a chance that even your best laid plan doesn’t work. But, better to be prepared and show solidarity as a group than have it come as a surprise and catch everyone off guard.

If you’re like me, setting the boundary or changing your mind in the moment is uncomfy, and can be confusing to the client. So choose a friend/companion appointment policy *before* you need to ask someone to kindly leave the room 😬😅

A simple, pre-written message to check in with your clients after their tattoo goes a looooong way in building trust, making yourself memorable, and leaving your clients feeling like they’re supported 😌💕
Having a template on what you want to say/send will make it easier to stay on top of it, and you can use tools to automate the reach outs (while you manually handle the responses) to take some of the admin load off.

If we were to call out any highlight to this post, it would be adding a checkbox to your consent form about adhering to studio safety procedures ✅ When a client is in-studio signing the consent form, this is your last chance (besides verbally) to communicate the importance of your health and safety procedures and clearly state why they are. Hopefully you’ve already sent them in advance, but it never hurts to capture consent to follow them before the appointment starts.

It’s finally happening!!!! It’s been a dream of mine to find a way to give back to tattooers somehow, some way, and nothing brings me more fulfillment that helping through education.
BEYOND THE NEEDLE will be a combo of educational topics presented by experts and community gathering, focused on everything surrounding tattooers that you don’t typically get support on.
We’re starting off with these 3 events in Austin, graciously hosted in @skycandyaustin ’s space at the end of April to mid May. Tickets are $5 because space is limited, but you’ll be fed and watered and walk away with a lil goodie bag and more knowledge than you had before.
If all goes well, we’d like to make this a more regular series 👀

I’ve watched TOO MANY people strip down to their undies 🩲 at conventions and freeze their butts off 🥶 because they didn’t think about thigh tattoo + skinny jeans = bad time.
Been harping on things to add to a pre-appointment FAQ, but it’s because there’s truly so much! And a big win for the client experience to feel supported, knowledgeable, and comfortable.
