Maila’ ta fan baila - CHamoru Dance and History Workshop + Donation Drive Super Typhoon Sinlaku Date: Saturday, May 2nd Time: 1:30pm - 3:00pm Location: MiraCosta College - OC 5307 | Parking Lot OC 5A The event would consist of learning about CHamoru Dance and it’s history! Join us for a workshop with Kutturan CHamoru Foundation! During the workshop we will learn the different movements of CHamoru Dance and it’s history! This event is free and open to all! ————— The Donation Drive for Super Typhoon Sinlaku - Super Typhoon Sinlaku hit The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and Guam on April 14th, 2026 with both rain and wind traveling at speeds of 180 mph. The Super Typhoon’s reach spanned across the Marianas - impacting Guam, Rota, and ravaging through Saipan and Tinian. Super Typhoon Sinlaku uprooted Mango Trees, Banana Trees, stripped trees bare. Sinlaku knocked down power lines, flooded homes, and trapped roadways for people to pass through. Marianas Press shared that Sinlaku displaced over 500 people living in shelters. A number that would increase if we considered the displacement of families in hotels and sheltering with other family members. Thankfully we have not received any reports of deaths on island! The Donation Drive is a One-Time Event to support those who have been impacted by Super Typhoon Sinlaku. Over this past weekend, our 2026 choreographic residents had their first collaborative workshop with their partner poets from @mindfull.movement . After a little movement and vocalization warmup with @cocozenmama , the artist were taken through some movement & poetry generation exercises with @dr.mamagrace and @drantblack . They were then given time to create together, share and give feedback, and create some more. Here are some moments of pure magic!
