Last Tuesday night was one to remember ❤️ I had the privilege to sub for Marie Hallynck to perform Dirk Brosse’s “Elegy for Cello and Chamber Orchestra”! Could not be happier to have had this experience with such dear friends in the orchestra. Felt the love and support the whole time I was on stage. 🥰
Grateful to all the friends who came to support (including my cello family Justus Grimm and Kacper Nowak), to the friends in the orchestra whose love I felt during all of the tutti sections and of course to Marie Hallynck, Dirk Brosse and Dirk van de Moortel for trusting me ❤️

Lorenzo introduces the theme, Diede joins gently shifting the line, while Simon holds Bach’s pulse beneath it all. The cellos begin to speak together, weaving lines that echo and respond.

The rhythm loosens, new influences slip in, and the music begins to breathe differently. What was written becomes reshaped in the moment through improvisation.

Where to begin? With Bach.
A starting point. A source. Music that still breathes centuries later, clear in form, deep in thought, endlessly alive.
From there we move freely. Themes unfold, motifs appear, improvisation opens new directions. Along the way, sounds and colours from different cultures join the music, turning it into a shared journey.
Bach remains the point of departure, however our voyage has no borders.

In celebration of the Philippine National Arts month, the PACE Creatives Consortium wishes you to meet Filipino artists and cultural workers in Europe.
Introducing...cellist Mikko Pablo, a versatile musician based in Antwerp, Belgium. He plays with the Susato Trio, founded in 2022 with Belgian violinist Sarah Bayens and Ukrainian pianist Markiyan Popil. The Trio is a regular guest in chamber music festivals, private and public concerts.
Mikko began his cello training at age 16 in the Philippines under the guidance of Amador Tamayo. Within two years, he was awarded a full scholarship to study in California with Bongshin Ko and Daniel Rothmuller of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
In 2016, Mikko moved to Belgium to study with Justus Grimm at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. He is currently pursuing studies in chamber music with Susato Trio through the European Chamber Music Academy Master's program at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et Danse de Paris.
Mikko has participated in a number of masterclasses with cellists including Pieter Wispelwey, Nathaniel Rosen, Young Chang Cho and Gustav Rivinius.
He also regularly collaborates with Ballet Vlaanderen and together with violonist Lorenzo Gatto, composes and performs music for the Brussels-based string collective "Karavan".
The PACE Creatives Consortium is a network of Filipino cultural talents and initiatives across Europe.
