You may have heard these names before… T-Rek & Mike Callander ring a bell, anyone? 📆🦖 'I’ve Done Worse Things To Better People’s Music'(Collaborations & Associations 2008–2021) is a compilation of collabs between the two, spanning over a decade of studio sessions, remixes and underground releases. What started in 2008 as @mikecallander asking @t_rek_fsdproductions to help finish some early productions quickly turned into a long-running creative partnership - one that’s shaped plenty of dancefloors over the years. Many of these tracks were previously only available on vinyl or tucked away on DJ platforms, now reworked and remastered into one place. Mike Callander started DJing in 2001, and since then has been recognised as one of Australia’s most diverse and yet consistent selectors. He continues to open andclose for countless touring artists in Australia and at various destinations across the world, but more importantly has helmed critical residencies at home in Melbourne clubbing institutions such as Honkytonks, for which he also compiled and recorded The Last Dance mix CD released globally in 2007, and at Revolver, where his weekly Friday night offering continues into its fourteenth year. In 2008 Mike co-founded Haul Music and began releasing ambitious avant-garde techno productions, including a long-player “Antarctica” and subsequent remix album, from which his tracks found their way on to mix CDs such as Dave Seaman’s Renaissance Masters, and into the crates of various tastemakers, and surprisingly even onto morning television. A decade later and he is equally at home producing pure dance floor bangers: a recent collaboration with The Presets’ entitled “Until The Dark” was the closing track of their top-5 album Hi Viz, and the energetic final track in their festival live shows. In 2016 and 2017 Mike’s production skills took him across Australia and the world for more than 30 shows with The Avalanches. This chart-topping Australian band is one of many to engage Mike’s live-show programming skills to take their project from the studio onto stages such as Glastonbury, Roskilde, Rock Werchter, BBK Live and Fuji Rock. More recently his work with the band has expanded to include studio work on their award-winning album We Will Always Love You. At the other end of the performance spectrum, Mike is equally at home performing solo improvised electronic sets in sweaty nightclubs, or alongside T-Rek, Honeysmack and Reggie Bowman as The Broken Acid Experiment ✨

So are we… ‘Out My Bitch (Mike Callander Remix) [T-Rek’s 2021 Eyes Open Nap Re-Remix]’ is the lead single from the forthcoming album ‘Mike Callander & T-Rek - I’ve Done Worse Things To Better People’s Music’, released next Friday March 20th on all streaming platforms via Freakshow Disco Productions. The album is a compilation of collaborations between myself and Mike between 2008 and 2021. To celebrate the release, Mike and I will be doing a special back to back set at @revolverupstairs on Friday March 27th. Yay…etc…

When I thought about this concept, it was about bringing it to the simplest unit: one deck, one track, one collection, and then multiply it by 4. Obviously you have to have some pretty seasoned DJs to be able to thread it together! Having a place like @revolverupstairs and the team there, allowing for this kind of experimentation, and @mikecallander to help putting it together it helps 😘

Goodbye to our dear Penelope, born in 2012 and a treasured member of our family since meeting at The Lost Dogs Home in 2016. Annie has always loved cats, but I was more of a dog man until I met Penelope. Her beautiful nature taught me something unique; I didn’t know it was possible to bond so deeply with a cranky little gremlin who speaks gibberish. We really felt she was our daughter and treated her as such. In the last months she thought differently, deciding instead that she was my mother, reminding me often with a paw to the cheek that I needed grooming—maybe due to our shared silver hair. We’re so grateful for every moment with her, and glad her exit was quick. Rest easy old gal. xx
