EVERY HEAVY THING descended on CUFF this past weekend for its Alberta Premiere and the crowd loved every beautiful, unsettling second of it 🎬 Writer/director Mickey Reece and producer Peter Kuplowsky stuck around for a post-screening Q&A that we didn't want to end! A neo-noir '80s techno-thriller-style gem about a guy who witnesses a murder and gets pulled into a very weird, very chilling web of high-tech shenanigans and good old fashioned serial murder, EVERY HEAVY THING is exactly our kind of film. ♥️💜 A huge pleasure hosting Mickey — 29 features in just over a decade with each subsequent film pushing boundaries and blowing minds! The 23rd annual CUFF runs through April 26 at @globecinema_yyc . Program and ticket details = calgaryundergroundfilm.org Photos by Sarah Koury (@sarahk.stills )

"Mickey Reece creates a one-of-a-kind dream-like descent into danger, death, and delirium that’s as unbelievable as it is unpredictable.... It’s an exciting stepping-stone in the career of one of the most exciting modern genre filmmakers." – @bdisgusting See EVERY HEAVY THING @ CUFF 2026 with Director, screenwriter @mickeyreece & Producer @peterkapow in attendance! Director Mickey Reece (CLIMATE OF THE HUNTER, CUFF 2020) takes us on a journey centered around an ad-seller for one of the last alt-weeklies in the country, who, after witnessing a murder, is intimidated into being the killer’s reluctant accomplice. Featuring a cast of familiar faces including @joshfadem (THE ART OF SELF DEFENSE, CUFF 2019), @tippernewton (WILD CARD, CUFF 2023), @veradrew22 (Director of THE PEOPLE'S JOKER, CUFF 2023) and @barbaracrampton (THE LAST STOP IN YUMA COUNTY, CUFF 2023 & GRIND, CUFF 2026), Reece sets his sights on neo-noir, bringing his own distinct twist to the ’80s techno thriller. Tonight is the last night of this OKC retrospective. The past two nights have been amazing. Thank you all for the support and thank you to Oklahoma Film Exchange for doing this. It’s been a great honor revisiting these movies and the people that made them ❤️

@mickeyreece , who grew up in Newcastle, Oklahoma, has come a long way from his high school days of shooting on tape in his parents’ house, using his friends as actors and crew. Now Reece’s features hit the festival circuit and typically go on international tour before being picked up on streaming. Enter Reece’s latest flick, Every Heavy Thing, which also premiered at @fantasiafestival this past July. This sleek, saturated indie techno-thriller seems to be the antithesis of Hollywood bloat (shot for $300K in Oklahoma City using Reece’s favorite stable of actors and crew) and perhaps is a cure for the creative agitation Reece suffered during his unintentional hiatus. It’s Reece’s strong commitment to his vision and storytelling, his truly unique perspective on the world and his desire to improve at his craft that have launched him into this next phase of his career—and Every Heavy Thing has plenty for audiences to sink their teeth into. Read more about Reece’s latest feature film in LUXIERE Edition 58, or online now! Link is in our bio. Mickey Reece Retrospective Night 3 • 1.17.26 7PM • Fall Films Reunion • PUNCH COWBOY (2011) - This movie is like Tender Mercies meets The Warriors. Everyone is awesome in it, especially my guy James Paulsgrove as a cowboy who comes out of the country to find a new wife but just ends up terrorizing criminals in the big city instead. At one point he says “It ain’t nuthin’ to me to whoop a man’s ass” in this and I definitely stole that line from my Dad 👌

Mickey Reece Retrospective NIGHT 3 • 1.17.26 8:45PM • Fall Films Reunion • WALRUS (2011) - Fall Films was the name of our “production company” that was really more of an acting collective, looking back. We would premiere these no budget movies at Oklahoma Contemporary (then called City Arts Center) only once and then start making another one directly after. Those were the best days and there was always a special place in my heart for this particular movie. Years passed, a lot of movies got made, and Walrus was kinda forgotten about until recently. Join me and some members of the cast for a Q&A moderated by Peter Kuplowsky. This has been a lot of years in the making and my heart is so full ❤️

Mickey Reece Retrospective NIGHT 2 • 1.16.26 9:15PM • A Tribute to Dustin Sanchez: KNIGHTS OF MALICE (2012) - Dustin co-wrote, co-produced and starred in this movie about a bail bondsman working for a high profile firm in a galaxy far, far away. People didn’t know what to make of this one back then with the Oklahoma Gazette calling the narrative “malformed” but within the context of more recent efforts (of making the mundane seem fantastical and the fantastical seem mundane), it hits a-lot different. I love this one ❤️

Mickey Reece Retrospective NIGHT 2 • 1.16.26 7PM • A Tribute to Dustin Sanchez: TARSUS (2013) - Many consider this one Dustin Sanchez’s best acting performance and it also happens to be supported by a handful of other’s amazing work, particularly Rebecca Cox’s award-winning portrayal of an addict piecing her life together after a five year prison sentence.

Mickey Reece Retrospective NIGHT 1 • 1.15.26 7PM • CLIMATE OF THE HUNTER Reunion - This movie only played once in OKC and it was during that damn pandemic. Come see it on the big screen at OFX followed by a Q&A with some of the cast and crew moderated by Peter Kuplowsky. Pretty sure the last time we were all together for this one was when it premiered in Austin in 2019. This has been a long time coming.

@oklahomafilmexchange presents a look back at some pictures I directed in a past life. This is the first time I’ve done a retrospective in OKC where all these movies were shot, so we’ll have some very special guests all three nights, not to mention Peter Kuplowsky is moderating. We’re talking groups of people who haven’t been seen together in over a decade, movies that have only been shown once and one movie that hasn’t been shown at all. Ever. I will probably cry. More details as they emerge. Love you all ❤️

Hey Everyone! Don’t miss a special episode of Haha, You Clowns tomorrow night (11/30) on Adult Swim 10:45 CST. My good man, Dustin Sanchez, performed some voiceover work with my other good man, Joe Cappa, a few months prior to Dustin’s tragic passing in August. @joecappa had the perfect idea to include Sanchez’s signature vocal fatigue as a voice in the episode. This is going to be special. Thank you, Joe. Tune in tomorrow night!
